There's a long waiting list at Mt.Sinai Toronto for j-pouch, someone suggested mcmaster Hamilton. Was wondering if anyone has had surgery there? Wanted to know there experience. Kinda scared as it is a teaching hospital.

Hello,
Who is your surgeon? I just had my 1st of 3 surgeries for the J-Pouch at Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto with Dr. Robin McLeod on May 3rd. I got in very quickly, so perhaps it depends on the severity of your illness? Mount Sinai is worth the wait, it is one of the best hospitals in Canada for IBD, and they have some of the best doctors, surgeons, nurses, and general care for people with IBD, ostomies, etc. I spent two weeks there last summer when I was extremely ill, and my mother who has Crohns Disease has had excellent care there over the last 25 years. I was diagnosed there, very quickly when I was 19, and couldn't have asked for better doctors and care throughout my time being sick. Generally the teaching hospitals are the best. If I were you I would wait for a spot at Mount Sinai with Dr. Zane Cohen or Dr. Robin McLeod, or any other GI surgeon for that matter. My GI doctor is at the hospital so perhaps that is why I got in with Dr. McLeod so quickly.
Hope you get in and start to feel better!
I'll be going in for my second surgery in July or August, perhaps you'll be in by then!
All the best!
