Hi, wish both of u best of luck. What tests are small bowel manometry and small bowel study?

Well I am back from my SBFT. Guess how long it took? 30 FREAKING MINUTES. WTH?! I was hoping for 2 and was expecting 3 or more. Well it appears that my Small Bowel is awesome.lol Question do you think a rapid transit time in my Small Bowel will keep me from surgery?

I got the report from the hospital. It said the UGI was perfectly normal and the SBFT "was within normal limits at 30 minutes", so I guess it is normal but I am still leary until I talk to the doctor.

wow Serenitee...... you sound just like me! i also had the surgery for colonic inertia, lived in the b/r for 17 years till i finally had the ileostomy. i also feel i lost SOOOOO much of life i want to cry :( from the age of 20 to 37. so glad i had the surgery, cuz i feel so much better now. best of health to all of us!!!

Mary, your blog is great! I didn't realize how close in age we are, I am 25 in a couple months. It is always great to be able to put a face to the name! I have been thinking of putting together a blog myself.

I have my college graduation party this Sunday, so today we have people staying over getting ready for all of the festivities. So the majority of the day was spent fake-smiling and trying to come up with excuses for why I am not wolfing down pizza and beer like everyone else, and instead I am eating chicken noodle soup and taking dulcolax, I love to see my family but it is frustrating when everything revolves around FOOD!

I am just ready to get this small bowel test over with. Mary, when you had your test, did you get to stay in one room the whole time or did they take a picture and then tell you to come back in ___ minutes for the next one? That is how they did my GES, they said I could walk around or just stay in the room...but the room was a tiny, dark, room with the machine and a little uncomfortable "waiting room" style chair in it. I was exhausted and just wanted to lie down, which I thought I would be able to do for the test, I had planned on taking a nap!

I am wondering if it will be the same way with the SBFT...did you have a "room" you were in and were you comfortable?

I wish I could just bring my own air mattress or something because I have the feeling all I will want to do is lay down. Hopefully my test will not take too long.

Lastly - are you having any issues with the barium after your test tickled?

You would think they could make us a bit more comfortable but they don't care as long as they get our money.

They moved my appointment to the morning instead of the afternoon, so hopefully I will have answers soon. I am so nervous, worried, anxious....etc Please send good thoughts my way. Today I have been in a lot of pain, I really want this surgery.

Hi everyone,
I just got home from my drive out of town to have my SBFT...so I am exhausted but will try to sum it up as best as I can! My appointment was at 11, and when I got there they did an initial x-ray without any barium in me. The tech asked why I was there and when I told her she said my test would probably take a long time, and that she had a guy in there yesterday who was there for 6 hours! So I was already worrying.

Then after asking me if there was any possibility if I was pregnant like FIVE TIMES, the lady brought in my 2 cups of barium to drink. I drank them both in about 20 minutes and then had the first x-ray, so it was around 11:45 I am guessing. Then a few minutes later she came in and said it was already moving through and I may not be there long at all. They took 2 or so more pictures and then she brought in ANOTHER cup of barium for me to drink because she said it was starting to slow down a little. I think the barium was "pina colada" flavored...or in other words...disgusting!

Then she took a picture at 1:00 and said it had reached the cecum...and then I had to go get the "live" x-ray thing which involved quite a bit of poking and prodding - - the doctor seemed to concentrate on my right side for a lot of it, is that normal, because that is where the cecum is generally located? Now I am just feeling generally "bleh" and headachey, and my abdomen feels heavy. I will definitely be taking my dulcolax and miralax tonight to get this barium out!!! I get the chills just thinking about it being in me.

I was done and out of the hospital by 2pm...much earlier than I thought I would be. Next Wednesday is my appointment with the surgeon where hopefully I will get more information.

Mary, I am thinking of you and hoping everything goes smoothly for you tomorrow! I know it causes more anxiety when they move appointments around, but you are right, you'll have your answers even sooner! Crossing my fingers for you!

Alibee, i don't know much if anything about this test, but from Mary's reaction, sounds like it went well..? yeah, the cecum is on the lower right side - it's the place where the large intestine connects with the small one. glad to see you too on FB you're a HOT mama ;)) thinking of you sweets and hope you soon have a surgery date.
