Will being in a flare effect m surgery? It's nxt week n I started to flare up last week. My surgery is on the 26thatthe USC med center n la ca. I ca twang to get it over with to start healing! 2yrs of my life this disease has taken frm me!

If you're on prednisone, it will take longer to heal from the surgery. I was on 40mg two weeks before surgery, and they had me taper 10 mg a week, which was a lot, but they didn't want to do the surgery on more than 20 mg (my surgeon was initially OK with being on more, but only before she realized I'd been on it a lot in the past two years).

Some people have emergency surgeries with ruptures and such, so it's clearly possible to do the surgery in a big flare.... but the healthier you are before, the easier recovery will be, in general. Of course, if we were all super healthy, we'd never need the surgery in the first place!

I was in a year-long flare that was at its WORST when I had my surgery. I was on 60 mg of pred, and had been for over a year. Like blueglass said, it can definitely be done, but the recovery may be harder. I didn't have any problems recovering at all, but it was maybe because my body was so glad to be rid of that awful colon!!

No. Just like the others have said, it may take a little longer to heal, BUT you WILL heal!!

Thank u all so much for ur feed bck. I just want to get this over with already. N having to go the e hospital bfor surgery will just b soo sad for me. I just out on the 5th of may. I was there for a week. Pls keep me n ur prayers!! God bless u all!!
