Help help help please

Smarty, I don't know exactly what is going on with you but it sounds like you need to see someome very soon. I can't imagine going a month without having a BM (poop). You must feel absolutely terrible. I remember my GI's physician's assistant telling me that they see people who haven't had gone in two weeks and they are asking to have their colons removed. June 15 is almost two months away. If it were me, I would be on my way to a hospital emergency room. Good luck. I hope you find some relief very soon.

I'm so sorry for you. You need to see a doctor as soon as possible. Please don't be afraid of surgery. So many people get their lives back because of it.

it sounds like your family doesn't want you to have this surgery and are saying things that are not true. I am not sure what country you are in but there are more health risks by NOT dealing with your situation. The surgery is surgery...but you get pain medication to help you through it. I've never for one second regretted having my colon removed.

I came from Hong Kong, and I living in calgary now. The main things is the laxative always not working, even the laxatives for colonscopy. All doctors said they can't do it because of the poop inside, only one doctor agree to do it, she said she only need to clean rectum and the rest doesn't to clean. Is it very dangerous. I saw a news in Hong Kong the man was removed the polys after surgery he was coma, and the man his nose was bleeding some green stuff, after one week the doctors found the man's whole organ full with poop, at last he die.

I am very scared now, but I booked the flight to HK on June 15

I am also from Canada, close to Vancouver, BC, and I know there are many skilled doctors and surgeons in our country, perhaps with more experience than the doctors you have spoken to in Hong Kong. Please, please see a doctor and ask to be referred to a gasteroenterologist or a colorectal surgeon.

For immediate relief, have you tried using multiple fleet enemas? I need to use multiple fleet enemas per day to achieve a bowel movement, or I would not go for weeks at a time. The pain is so bad. Also, try to drink Miralax mixed with a warm drink 1-3 times per day to help keep stool softer.

The pain after surgery will be controlled very well and I think it would be better to deal with that rather than dying from a bowel obstruction. Most people in Canada have a patient-controlled pain pump or an epidural for at least the first few days. I would urge you to seek medical care before you travel to Hong Kong.

Smarty, why is surgery too dangerous for you? You need to see a doctor who specializes in gastrointestinal disorders or a colorectal surgeon. An emergency doctor is not specialized enough in this area to make that decision.

There are always risks involved in any type of surgery but I amongst many others on this forum have had our colon removed and we are all still here, and I must say the pain from the disease was far worse than the pain after surgery. I actually felt so good after surgery that I wanted to get up and have a shower straight away so I did with the help of the nurses. Yes it does hurt but its not that bad, and I really think its very unlikely you will die from this surgery. You have to do what is best to treat your illness but make sure you get a couple of opinions from gastro specialists and colorectal surgeons and write down all the questions you want answered and ask away. Im sure they will be able to tell you what would be the best treatment for you and if that is surgery then try to relax, your not making yourself any better stressing this much. Keep us posted on what you decide

Please Smarty do not look on the internet about mortality rates for a total colectomy operations - it is rubbish that you are gonna die after this operation!!!!!  ARe you otherwise fit and healthy??? I cant understand your GI dr and colorectal surgeon saying it is dangerous - why is that did you ask??? in any event you are blatantly suffering so what are they gonna do about it   ????   Those people who die on TV have probably got other issues going on with their health - really dont be scared!

if you are fit and healthy - (i know your bowel is not working) then you have NOTHING TO WORRY about!!! do you need to go back to HOng Kong.  you need surgery and if you are worried about the diarrohea then you can have an ileostomy as an option.  please, it is routine surgery - people all over the world have their bowels removed/resectioned etc every day.

I am sorry your boyfriend is so unsupportive you could do without that - but ignore him and do the right thing for your health.  how old are you and do you live in Canada permanently? Also there is a powder mix in a sachet that you can get from the hospital or your doctor which is called (in the UK) Picolax - they give it to you to clear your bowel out before surgery.  it might take a while to kick in cause you sound like you could be really full of poop.  thats what i used all the  time when my bowel just packed in working.  i hope you are okay and get help.

Bless you and i am praying for you Smarty. Yes all surgeries carry a risk but so does giving birth too!! Try to have faith you will be okay - the pain is a nuisance but we all get through it so please remember that... and also keep walking around after your surgery because it helps with the bowels waking up as that is the only pain that i found annoying but remember it will pass after a few days. i know you are scared and that is normal... thinking of you.
