Anyone have constipation because of depression and stress, does surgery work

I remember when I was young, I don't have constipation, but seem I have depression and stress, I have constipation, I did the marker test , all there, but last year, I suddenly recover for a couple months, but suddenly stop again, always a month no poop.and the laxative always not working, even I try the strongest one, I suspect is I can't relax. In this situation is surgery help? Anyone have the same experience please give me opinion.will I have constipate after surgery or I will have diarrhea, will it severe dirrhea .

what do you consider as recovering? i know that with motility issues there is no logic at all. you can be quite well in one second, and in another you feel worst than ever before. also, i had 2 years of relative improvement: while i still had symptoms, i suddenly switched from constipation to diarrhea. i could not explain this change but was grateful for this, however, after two year, out of the blue my gut and stomach suddenly stopped working at all and i had the worst years of my young life. i learnt three years later when i was diagnosed with chronic intestinal pseudo obstruction that dysmotility can cause bacterial overgrowth resulting in diarrhea which promotes a partial relief from symptoms like severe constipation etc. but this can chance from one moment to another. to answer your question: depression can not cause slow transit constipation/severe constipation. depression may cause usual constipation many people suffer from but severe constipation/colonic inertia is a totally different issue. it has something to do with abnormal nerves in the gut or a deranged network of pacemaker ceels. this cannot happen through depression. the result if colectomy depends on several things: isolated colonic dysmotility usually works better than generalized motility issues. if you have a rather fast small bowel you could have diarrhea but most folks do not have diarrhea in the long-term as the small bowel adapts. even if you have svere diarrhea which is rather unusual there are meds that slow down your gut and as a finals tep you can have a bag. usually, slowing down a fast gut is easier than trying to pace a slow gut.

in the end, it is your decision nobody can make for you. high mortality is relative. there are many procedures which are more dangerous. but for sure, you can have a fatal small bowel obstruction, ischemia etc. but given the high incidence of postoperative ileus and the low amount of patients being in life-threatening situation it is more than acceptable. every surgery bears a risk. one has to outweigh the potential therapeutic effect against the potential risks.
in terms of death, colectom is a pretty safe procedure. surgeries on the colon are less likely to result in death than surgery on small bowel, stomach etc.
but in the end you have to know if you are willing to accept the risk when your life is nearly non-existent. if you are like this i think its not a real question.

it depends on the reason for surgery. if you have cancer there may be additional risks which are absent with benign disease. GI docs usually dont support surgery for ci, so its better to turn to a colorectal surgeon.
