I see the surgeon on June 30th for a consult.  For those of you that had the j-pouch surgery, what was the time between surgeries?   2nd question is how long did it take you to recover from the first surgery?  The reason I am asking is I am going to be quitting my job at the end of the year to stay home with our kids.  Right now, I cover the insurance.  If I can get the 2 surgeries (if I dont need 3) I would probably want the first one as soon as possible in hopes of getting the second one before the end of the year.  My husband will be carrying the insurance for us after the end of the year but his insurance will be much more expensive.  We also have planned a trip in late Sept/early Oct so I am not sure if I should schedule the first surgery after that or if I maybe do it mid August would I be up to a beach trip in the fall?  Thanks for any input you can provide.

Hi GeorgiePorgie, I had my first surgery which was the colon remove and i had to wait 3 months to have the second surgery which was to form the j-pouch. At the beginning my surgeon told me it was 3 months in between each surgery but because my insurance starts over july 1st she is doing the 3rd surgery in 7 weeks so i think you will have time to have all 3.

Oh and it took maybe 2 weeks though i took it easy recovering and after the second surgery it took 3 weeks.

I would get the first surgery in as soon as possible. You'll be fine for your vacation. I had three steps and after the first step - which is the major one - I went away for a weekend trip a couple of weeks later. After four weeks you'll be feeling good and by six weeks you'll be feeling great. Good luck!

My surgery is three steps. At seven weeks I went in for follow up and was released to start running again. I'm about 10 weeks now and well into training for a half marathon. :)

Time between surgeries can vary greatly. My first and second will end up being about seven months apart because my surgeon wants me to lose more weight and I want to run my half in October. I'm not sure how long I will have to wait between 2 and 3. Hopefully not long.
