New ostomy question - flange size

Hello,

I'm new to this so please forgive if this is a dumb question. Many products for ostomy pouches (like pouch covers, Sure Seal rings, etc.) are differentiated by flange size. I've been using Hollister 1-piece pouches (88400) since I was in the hospital and have had good results so far. But does a 1-pc have a flange or a "flange size"? In my catalog I see no mention of a flange size (or equivalent) with any of the 1-pc appliances. When ordering Sure Seals, for example, what "flange size" do I order for a 1-piece?

there are only 2 sizes of sure seals - the small round ones (which i think are meant for babies/kids) and the bigger square ones. you should order the square ones. they are a little too big, so you can trim them to fit your needs.

i never tried a one peice appliance, so can't answer that, sorry. good luck :)

No, a one piece doesn't have a flange. The flange is the ring that connects the pouch to the wafer. Usually if you have a smaller stoma and have a pre-cut wafer, the flange will be smaller as well. Hope that makes sense :)

Thank you for the info! So when I'm asked for a flange size when ordering an accessory for a 1-piece appliance, I measure two points where the pouch meets the wafer on opposite sides of the stoma for the diameter (instead of measuring the diameter of the wafer/barrier itself)?

if you order samples for Sure Seals at www.alpglobal.com they ask what product you use by number and send the appropriate size:) You should be able to email them the question, too.
