Ileostomates do you have to walk after you eat?

Ileostomates, I'm just taking a quick survery here. Do you have to walk after you eat to have poop comforably move out or do you sit or even as some intact people do, have a nap after you eat? I have to walk after I eat to feel comfortable and to get things moving faster than they would if I didn't walk. Just curious. Rosemary

I don't have to walk after I eat, although I tend to enjoy doing so after a big meal (my partner, on the other hand, hates walking after eating.....not that that's particularly relevant....)

I don't have to do anything after I eat, I have high output stoma and short bowel syndrome so spend my time taking codeine and immodium to slow the darn thing down!

Walk after I eat?? I would not ever stop walking!! Now that I think about it, I wouldn't have time to eat for always walking. I never walk just because I have eaten.

Very interesting variety of answers!!!! We are alllll sooooo different! julsgirl, an ileostomate after my own heart, I feel exactly the same as you after I eat. I have had scans which show all open and so far no blockages. BUT Then the surgeon said IBS (IBS is uneven contractions of the COLON) My colon is not even in the picture as an ileostomate! Was sort of surprised he said that, but he is a surgeon and not a GI doc. I guess in lieu of any definitive awful issues we all just do what makes us feel best.

Dan, I love your sense of humor, you'd always be walking ie: means you are always eating?????? I wish we could meet some day, I think you would crack me up laughing.......humor the best medicine. I live in western Mass, if you do too, lets meet for some meal, then I will go for a walk and you can continue talking with our friends/spouses we bring with us. I even have to get up and walk before desert.

Just heading out for a walk before bedtime. do you know what I discovered, a little Bailey's Irish Cream will quickly dissolve the biscuit that comes with the egg at Dunkins. So to go to bed empty all I gotta do is a Bailey's chaser. I have to be very careful not to do too much. Just about a half inch of it in a glass poured over ice. Ahhhhhh! I could write a book about what different foods do in the human gut. Intact people with no digestive issues are CLUELESS. Lucky them. Would give anything to go back to those clueless days, but it is as it is. Rosemary

it is one of those old flint stone glasses that jelly used to come in back in the early 60's .....diameter about 2 inches. Wish I could do the 5" diameter glass of half inch of Bailey's. Maybe I could if I ate more Biscuits at Dunkins. At this rate I'll weigh ten tons. hehehe! Rosemary
