ive had the 2nd of the 3stage op, now i have the j-pouch inside me and just 1 more to go to connect me up, but the only thing is that this new stoma is flush with the skin and keeps leaking and its also making a lot of noise, so i was wondering how long it is before i can have the lot removed and the j-pouch connected up?

any1 who has had this done - comments please people!

Hey stomski, CONGRATS! Im where you are buddy, and usually the surgeon said he waits 3 months...im already 4 out but i have a complication, so im waiting to see if that will heal itself all up nice and tight. I have the same deal with my stoma, (his name is Clyde, helped with the initial adjustment to name it, you know?)everyone is all impressed with my lack of scars (laproscopic) and how very tiny and pretty and flush my stoma is...its less than 7/8 inch! Doesnt make it too easy to take care of tho! I have finally just adjusted to changing Clyde every day and a half or two, sometimes daily, because i have problems getting the seals to stay with it so close to the skin. I use hollister two piece lock and roll drainable pouches in beige...LOVE THEM, slap on some flextend, the wafer and the bag and off i go. Its the closest ive gotten to manageable, so im content for the meantime. But i do feel your pain my friend! not too much longer,...did you start the countdown yet?

that long?!?

i was hoping for a month or 2 as i want to get on and enjoy the summer months.

been out of hospital 2weeks and ive had 4leaks (at home) not messy ones, just where its begun to leak at the sides and ive managed to fix it before it makes a right old mess. got an appt with surgeon 7th april to book the next one, but my wound has opened slightly and needs packing daily, so i doubt he'll do it til that heals over.

i had the op on 28th feb so im hoping may as the next one (fingers crossed) i dont mind having to go to the loo alot once the bag is removed, just want rid of it asap.

dont get me wrong, before the bag my life was completely different, i had UC for a year, no meds worked and i didnt really go out, then bowel perforated and then had a stoma and once healed i was out every week as i should, but now it just worries me that it'll leak when i go back to work or go out partying?!?!

well im sorry you are having a time with leaks, i did too. Really it does settle down, you are still so soon after this surgery, you cant really look at what you have now because it changes so much in the first 2 months. It really will settle, and you will find and adjust to how to get the bag to last...there are tips on this forum, and also on the Ostomy part of the www.j-pouch.org website. I looked through them when i was haivng a rough time and they saved my sanity. It is great to find new product name,s cuz its not like you know what you are doing at all...you cant just get online and look up and know what is right for what problem...so you may want to look there. But you really want to hold onto that ostomy for a while to make sure you are healed on the INSIDE too...getting reconnected while your pouch is healing is SO not pleasant, as i found out from two people i found who are one-steppers...god bless them but from what it sounds like its worse than the UC! Just try to stay where you are, knowing you will get takedown, and do the best you can to get yourself as healthy as you can going into this next step so your adjustments to bms are easier...
