Once again, a leak at work.  Third time.  My output was really really thick for some reason, but I was making sure to pay attention to it and shake it out of the ring so it went down into the bag.  What a pain.  I drink tons of water.  Things seemed to be fine and then I noticed there was a leak starting to happen.  I went to the back bathroom (thankfully a big one person one) to strip down and change my appliance.  When I pealed off the wafter all this poo started pouring out.  It was thick and it kept coming and coming.  It was like the amount one would have if they had a regular BM.  What would cause that to happen?

Where was the leak from? Under the wafer? Perhaps the area wasn't completely dry when you put it on? I'm so sorry you are going through this, thankfully I have only ever had 2 bad leaks and that was just after I had my ileostomy done so I think in my case it was more like error on my part also with the changing size of my stoma at the time. Have you tried different appliances? Sorry I'm not a lot of help but more info needed, there are also some great hydro frames I use when I go swimming to give it that added grip and mine never moves. Is your stoma retracted? Mine is and when I used non convex wafers my stoma would turn sideways and force the sewage out under the wafer. Nothing would stop it. Also, is your wafer opening too small? The wafer might be swelling up and closing off the stoma opening. Had that problem with the soft convex seal I tried. It would swell up and cover my stoma.

I do have to use a convex wafer with a convex barrier. I tried the advice before of not using the barrier and just the wafter. What happened was the soft ring got really part around the ring got soggy sloughed off and then my skin got really irritated. What I am now doing because the wafer does swell up and it was strangling my stoma I cut that part of the wafer and am not putting the convex barrier on where that was. Now it's not so bad. I've had to change it really frequently because of that it does swell up. It seems to be doing this swelling a lot more then it was before. I'm starting to think I might have to change it daily. I still can't believe how much output there was.

I'm afraid I might be sick again. I'm the one with the fistula repair. My surgical site was in my perinium. In the last day or so I started havin pain in my recutum. I have never had pain there. I'm also having bleeding from my wound (which I'm not terrible concerned about since it was a big surgery and it's only been 8 weeks). I called my dr and he called in an antibiotic and wants to see me on Monday. I'm really afraid I might have another abcess. I have been dealing with this for so long. I just want this to be over.

I sould probably call my ET nurse, but I'm really hoping to have this reversed to in the next 4 weeks (fingers crossed) and I have enough supplies to last until then. I really don't want to mess with ordering more. This is really flusterating, though.

I don't have any hair on my belly. My skin is always clean and dry when I put it on and I really don't touch it. The only extra thing I use is a convex barrier ring. I don't wear a belt, but I do use those ostomate underwear that holds the bag close to my body.

I think it's getting backed up, now that I think about it. For breakfast I eat cereal with yogurt and fruit. I had to stop eating blueberries because of what was happening and started eating mangos. I don't want to cut out fruit all together, but I might have to. I drink water constiently, but after I eat breakfast my output gets really thick - think smuched up granola bar. It was really bad with the blueberries so I stopped eating those (plue it turned my output green). Now I have mango pieces come out. I fight with this all day. Theout put will build up so I go in the bathroom and shake it out into the bag. I'll spend a fair amount of time in there while it's working with the bag half open to make sure it falls into the bag. I guess I'll just have to change what I eat. It seems by the time I get home, everything is the normal pasty output.

Excellent description.  The only thing I can add is the use of a hair dryer to help the bonding process.

You say you use a skin prep with a Moldable flange and a Sure Seal? My ostomy nurse told me that using a skin prep would make them not stick as good. Do you cover your whole area? From around the stoma to where the sure seal ends? I just wrote a huge post labled "Sure Seal Irritation" stating that i get really itchy under my wafer/sure seal. Would a skin barrier help with that? I'm going to try to go back to the smith&nephew wipes again to see if the itching stops but using a skin prep might be a good idea too.
