Mary- when I had my colonoscopy last year, one of the preps I used was moviprep. Of all of the preps I had to drink (I had to take like 4 different things over the course of 2 days)...Movieprep was the best. I ate light/liquid things like soups for a few days before, and then I took my normal laxatives the day before I started the preps, which DEFINITELY is a good idea. The Moviprep will go through much easier if it doesn't have to work through a lot of stuff. I am sure you already know that. But my suggestion is: I'm not sure what "flavor" you'll get, but my moviprep was lemon flavored and it tasted awful. I'd recommend getting some crystal lite packs or something to mix in. It will be easier to drink if you mix it up a little ahead of time and stick it in the fridge so it is ice cold. I also bought some strongly flavored hard candies to pop in my mouth right after drinking the stuff which really helped get the taste out of my mouth fast.
As far as red foods, as far as I know the only reason you can't eat or drink them before a colonoscopy is because red food dyes stain very easily, and they can't tell on the scope if what they are seeing is just red residue from what you've been eating or drinking, or something else like blood or inflammation. I am sure it wouldn't matter one bit for your surgery since they aren't inspecting your colon or anything, they are just taking it out.
But you just do what makes you feel better mentally, if that means no red stuff, then don't bother. You can eat all the red jello and popsicles you want after the surgery anyway :)
