Horrible Pain after Colectomy

I had my Colectomy 6 days ago. I have had bad gas pains but have dealt. I do not take pain pills except before bed. Earlier I got up to walk and it felt like a knot of pain above belly button and radiated to my back. Worst pain of my life! I was ok sitting and bending over but when I laid down or stand up I couldn't take it,I was in tears. I took pain medicine and 45 minutes later starting to feel better, not a 10 anymore more like a 7 if I don't move. Oncall doctor said to wait it out or go to ER really trying to not go back to the hospital. Why is the pain in my middle back mostly? No nausea or fever. Just tingling hands. Anyone experience this,what could it be if pain meds take it away?This is not normal pain!

Fever is low grade now at 100 was at 97.9

glad you're alright.. dont' back off those pain meds too soon though. Keep on top of the pain with regular meds rather than letting it build up too much and then getting desperate. Keep a close eye on things and if unsure get yourself to the hospital though. You've been through major surgery only a few days ago, so dont' underestimate the strange things it does to your body and in places you don't expect. Go easy, rest up and don't rush. That sounds like it was a partial blockage. I'm assuming you have an ileostomy (I know you told us what you getting, my memory is terrible) as such, if you don't pass stool within 4 hours always go to the ER. that was my surgeons general rule of thumb for ileostomies. They should be constantly active and if they aren't or are barely producing anything for extended periods of time, it's ER time baby. the other things that makes me think it was a blockage was the low grade fever and the pain radiating in your back. All are signs of a blockage. surgeon also said if temp gets to 100, go to the ER because that's never normal, especially after surgery. (sometimes low grade fevers can also be a sign of infection)

and 6 days out, don't be afraid to take your pain meds. Its perfectly alright. I took mine for 4 weeks after my first surgery and 3 for the second and 2 for the last one. I used my pain pumps up until they let me out too. I'm glad it passed though and you (hopefully) are doing better. take it easy and hopefully the next time we hear from you it will be "I'm doing awesome!" :)
