i had J--Pouch surgery #1, 3 weeks ago. I feel great but I am scared to death to eat anything other than white carbs or yogurts, puddings....etc. I am really craving peanut butter sandwich and salad....... Can/Should I try this or am I asking for trouble???!?!?!?

I would say that a pb sandwich should be fine (as long as it is smooth peanut butter) but I'd wait a few more weeks on the salad.

I was having veggies as soon as I got home from my first surgery. I just chewed like crazy and peeled whatever I could.

I agree to use creamy peanut butter at first. If you decide to have a salad, start with a small one, peel off the skin and de-seed cucumbers and tomatoes, chew really well, drink plenty of water, and enjoy!

I was told to avoid dried coconut as it can swell, that was many, many years ago.

well I tried raspberry preserves with the seeds and that went fine, I'm betting I can handle the tomato seeds if I peel off the skin.

It seems like it's really individual what each person can eat post surgery. Within a week I was eating cucumber, tomato, onion salad. Now, a month past surgery, I eat whatever I want. I'm a pretty healthy eater, so that means salads, no fried foods really. I eat beans, but they do give me gas, so I have to empty my bag more frequently. I just make sure to chew everything really well. I did have fries last night for the first time, and I did notice a lot of liquidy output today...so maybe the grease bothered me???
I did introduce foods one at a time during that first week as well. The only food I haven't done is raw cabbage and lentils (only because both gave me TONS of gas before my surgery.
I think PB will be fine! Good luck!

I didn't eat the foods that they tell you to avoid for the first 8 weeks after surgery. Then I slowly started to add things a little bit at a time and chew them really well. I have not found anything I can't eat yet, though I have avoided tough raw veggies like carrots and broccoli. I ate my first salad around 2.5 months. I started with just a few lettuce leaves and now can eat one cereal bowl size with cucumbers, tomatoes, green or yellow peppers and black olives. Haven't gotten brave with raw mushrooms yet, but I eat the canned ones no problem.
Within a week of surgery I was eating canned veggies though like carrots and green beans. Had no problem with those since they are mushy. I also ate roast beef even though it is considered a "stringy"meat. I made it in the crock pot, so it was melt-in-your-mouth tender. I also had pizza quite a bit right after surgery, just with cheese and pepperoni instead of veggies. I ate A LOT of peanut butter... the creamy variety. Also lots of eggs prepared in all the different ways. Again, chewing everything until it was almost a liquid consistency.
Just be patient. You will be able to try more foods in a couple of months.

I heard peanut butter is a thickener type food, but I'm allergic to it so I never eat it. Just what I heard. I have an ileostomy. I know what you mean about
the carbs being easy to digest and sugary stuff too. I've gained a TON of weight since my ileo. I had to gain back about
20 lbs but then I gained 15 more on top of that. Rosemary
