So I was changing my bag today. And I have tape all over me, cause I tape it to my stomach and then when I'm in the shower I tape it up on itself, I can't stand for it to touch my leg. But anyway, I had the bag down in trash bag pulling the wafer down and cleaning around it. Well one of the pieces of tape somehow wrapped around my stoma, which was awful cause I hate to touch it, and then it had ick all over it, so when I tried to pull it off instead of going in the bag, it fell down and didn't just land on my toe, it somehow wrapped around I and stuck! So now this poopy, blood, icky tape is wrapped around my toe and I'm standing there stoma uncovered nastytape on my foot! Well I stand on a pad on the ground so it doesn't go on the floor somehow I manage to get the tape off while holding a towel on so stuff won't come out!thn I get the bag changed and get the alochol wipes after that toe!

Yuckkkkk...... but it's just kind of gross sometimes.....
Why does it bother you to have the bag touch your leg? Maybe not something you can explain, but that never occurred to me re the shower..... I don't like it so much when I'm wearing pants because it chafes.... doesn't bother me to touch my stoma either....

I just don't like how it feels hanging down like that on my leg and rubbing me. And in the shower it gets in my way when I'm shaving I don't like constantly moving it. And it just feels weird to me, I don't know why. When I frist got the bag and I couldn't figure out how to keep it off my leg I was like ugh how am I gonna deal with this! Esp in the shower, it also doesn't get as wet that way. Andi dnt know why it bothers me to touc my stoma, I can't stand to touch my teeth either. Gives me the creeps.

When I shower, I use clothes pins to hold the bag up.

Haha, aw, I hope you're not too scarred by the incident. I think we're opposites though. At first I was kind of scared to touch the stoma, but these days when I'm changing my bag I wind up standing there for 5 minutes poking at it and watching it move.

Is your stoma unusually low or is your bag unusuallly long? I wear convatec and the end is too long. I cut 3/4 inch off of the bag and have plenty of space for the clip..

Well I don't use the clip kind. But I don't think its any longer than its supposed to be, why?

at least you didnt' empty your poop all over your legs and feet and pretty much the whole bathroom. I did that the other day was a great experience lol Let's just say I'll make sure I'm ready to go before I start unclipping!

Are you using the disposable bags? Because with those you just rip them off and dump them , no clip, no poo...? You just keep the flange on and remove the bag and put it in the garbage..then in the shower your stoma can get a minute to rest and get some clean water and air..maybe I have a different visual, but picturing bags with clips, yuk, those are no fun!

yeah i use the disposable ones, but when i change, i stick the end of the pouch, into the little trash bag thing i dispose in, and pull the whole thing off at the same time, wafer too, with the stoma still pointed into the bag, that way the output has nowhere to go. then i pull it down slowly, cleaning as i go, and as soon as i run out of room for that, i cover it quickly with a piece of towel. the problem came when a piece of the tape that holds my bag up in the shower came off and landed on my stoma, then when i took it off, and attempted to throw it in the trash bag, i missed and got my toe. i guess i didn't explain that well! there is no way i could take a shower with out a bag on. i know that it would wash down the drain, but it would have to go down my legs to get there, and then how do i keep my leg clean? and how do i move around and shave and stuff, without it just going everywhere, no way! and then again, it would be getting touched by water, or by me accidentally, ugh

And I thought my change today was comical. ;-) Trying a new appliance and it was like I've never done this before or something!
I'm with you, I don't like to touch my stoma either. This is a big part of why I take my wafer off in the shower. I wait until I'm done with everything else shower related, take the bag/wafer off, and then I can use mostly the water from the shower head to do the cleaning. To stand there at the sink with wipes and stuff trying to clean around the stoma freaks me out. I do have really thick output though, so I know when it's coming (usually) and don't have anything "running" down my leg.

I get it summerstorm, your output is not solid, that makes sense, I also know when mine is coming, now if I am flaring that's a whole different story.. Ostomys are just so much fun aren't they? Ha ha

You said that you don't like your bag hitting your leg. My pouch is not long enough to hit my leg. Why is the end of your pouch low?

i think that women's stomas are usually placed lower, and also, im really short waisted. the end of the bag goes down below my underwear and onto the top of my thigh if i dont tuck it up under my undies, and in the shower it just gets in the way!
