Dillon has not been feeling as well the last few days.

He says the BM frequency has increased and that bowel movements "feel different"...what ever that means. He has no pain and no blood and says that his appetite has INCREASED greatly...he always feels hungry. He is also quite fatigued but that could just be do to not sleeping as well.

Any thoughts as to if this could be pouchitis? He was going to call the surgeon today to talk to her but as yet has not called. Since it has only been a couple of days should he just wait it out for a bit and see what happens? His frequency goes up and down all the time anyway but what is different this time is the "feeling different" when he has a bowel movement.

Any ideas?????

Pouchitis symptoms mimic flu symptoms; Body aches, abdominal discomfort, increased frequency that can be foamy, and possible fever. He may or may not have pouchitis; if not he might have a general virus. If you're concerned you can always have him start either Cipro or Flagyl. Or, you can wait it out.

Also along with increased frequency, there is usually increased urgency as well with pouchitis. Never hurts to put a call in to the doc. Hope he feels better...

 Sorry to hear Dillion isn't feeling well.  Has he been checked for stricture.  My daughter has had that problem where the surgeon had to go in and dialate her opening. Don't know if you can get those later or not.  Also thank you for all your encouraging words you had given me during my daughters surgery.  She will be starting her junior year of high school next week.  With the sparkle back in her eyes again.   Hope it is just a bug he picked up and he will be back to his old self again.

Thanks everyone.

Dillon spoke with the surgeon and she is giving him a cipro/flagyl prescription. He is actually feeling a little better today and most certainly no worse so I think he is going to wait a few days before starting the prescription and see what happens. If it is actually just a regular virus but he takes the antibiotics everyone, including the doc and him, will assume it was pouchitis and then I know that every time he feels not the best he will assume that it is pouchitis coming back. If this is a virus and will pass on its own I really think it would be good for him to know.

Anyway....cross your fingers for us.

I hope you all have a great weekend....I cannot believe how fast the summer has flown by.

Thanks for asking....still not sure.

He has not started his prescription for pouchitis as we are waiting this out a bit to see what is going to happen. Last evening he started feeling like he had a virus.....stuffy nose, runny eyes etc. However, I wonder if being run down he has now picked up another bug or was this the bug that was causing the intestinal problem all along?????

I guess time will tell.

Just an update....what ever it was passed on its own.

Dillon is feeling fine. He had his script sitting ready but never started it. I am sure it will take him a few rounds of feeling not well (and getting better) to realize that his intestines are now just like everyone else's and he can feel "off" but then can actually improve without a trip to the hospital!
