Allergic to pain meds, need surgery

I am seriously allergic to narcotic pain meds (seizure and vomiting), including synthetics like Ultram.  I have been advised by three different doctors that it is time to get surgery, removing the colon/large intestine and attaching the small intestine to the rectum.  I've had multiple tests, have tried every medicine/diet/suppliment, etc with absolutely no success.  My first scheduled colonoscopy earlier this year had to be cancelled because, even with an extended four day cleanse, I could not empty enough (I did complete a colonoscopy two weeks later).  My symptoms are similar to the more extreme examples I see here (months without a bm, and only have a bm after mag citrate, ducolax, myralax and enemas--it's crazy).  My condition has really deteriorated over the last year and I'm miserable.

But I'm also really upset about the pain med allergy and surgery!  I've read that an epidural will be standard, and I know I can handle that, but what other solutions are out there to help?  I've tried Arnica for other pain, but it didn't help.  Can anyone suggest something?  Thanks!

But... doesn't an epidural have morphine (among other drugs) in it? How are you able to handle that?

Yes the epidural does have morphine in it so not sure how that is going to work if you're allergic to it. Maybe as it stays in spinal canal it won't effect you the same, but no idea to be honest. Is this what the doctors suggested and they know you are allergic to narcotics?

I don't have epidurals after the only one I had didn't work so I stick to a PCA for 4 days and then onto oral pain meds - tramadol and codeine.

 

Also depends if you have lapro or open procedure. Mine have all been open and so that takes longer to heal and large incision and cut muscles and hence more pain. Lapro is 3/4 small holes and so quicker healing and much less pain. Recovery from lapro is much, much quicker as well. Wish I could have had lapro but way too much scar tissue and too much of a mess inside.

I am also have severe constipation, especially within these 3 years ,always months can have little come out. I feel very suffer, always think of surgery. But the laxative always not working. Same to you, even the laxative for colons copy still not working. However, my family always reject me to do surgery. I have a little nervous. Because I heard 2 news in hong kong, 2 patients have colon surgery, 2 died, 1 patient coma after surgery, 1 week later, the doctor open surgery for him, the found him full of poop in his stomach. Another patient is breeding, he bleeds 6-7 litre, finally he died.and my brother have 4 friends doing remove large intestine, 2 have polys, 2 have cancer, they all died.

But I read many case here, they all survise. Recently I feel sharp pain for my colon in different area.I am very scare of colon cancer. I don't know I should come back or not. I feel pain every day.

All doctor said if I can't clean out the poop, they can't do surgery because infection. Only 1 doctor said she will do surgery for me even I have poop inside, is it too risky.
