Hi, I'm having a problem. For 3 months now, I have had a cough complete with clear phlegm. It stared in June and I had my surgery #1 of 3 for jpouch done on April 19 with no trouble, quick good recovery. Currently have a end ileo that I manage perfectly fine, no trouble. This is the result of ulcerative colitis that stopped responding to ALL meds.
I had two normal chest x-rays in past 2 months, no signs or infection, no other symptoms, this wasn't the product of a cold, nor is it allergy related. After my family dr had me try allergy oral anihistamines (allegra and Zyrtec) with no Improvement and albuterol inhaler if needed, again nothing. Took Mucinex Dm and tessalon pearles with no improvement. Saw an ear nose and throat dr about 2.5 weeks ago, he listened to me coughing, put a tube and scope down my nose into throat and decided it was irregular presentation of acid reflux. Gave me a strong prescription proton pump inhibitor (kapidex) and hydromet cough syrup to take at bedtime, to stop the cycle to irritation of throat from GI acidity. It has improve about 80% but I am still coughing more than an average person! Surgery is on thurs sept 21, and it's open incision=way painful to cough. Has anyone else experienced this?? My surgeon doesnt seem to have any experience with this nor do they say it is related! They said "oh you can postpone it of course, but who knows when it'll resolve." Any advice?! I'd rather not postpone as I am getting married in less than 9 months and still have step 3 to complete after this!! Help!
