good days pre op colectomy?

Me again!

Has anyone with colonic inertia experienced a few "good" days, with loose BMs after minimal laxatives (say 2 capfuls of Miralax for a couple of days)?  Sometimes nothing works for me, but lately I'm able to go a couple of times per day, a little output (maybe 1/2 cup) and very, very small and loose.

I can't go at all without some laxatives, and did a Sitzmarker with 21 out of 24 remaining...but if I'm able to go some right now I'm still wondering about having surgery.

Anyone else have a stretch of good days with CI pre-surgery?

Don't know about with CI, but my Crohn's symptoms got much better the week or so before surgery..... I started having formed stool every day for the first time in many years..... other people have said things like that too. I think for me it was partly the stress relief of having made a decision, being off of work, and also of course, the heavy dose of prednisone I was on. I wasn't fooled, though..... I knew that if I was off the drug and going to work etc, I'd get right back sick again.

     This must be the old brain trying to trick you into keeping the colon trick.  I suffered with UP (proctitis) for twelve years and ran the gamut of meds before finally deciding on the surgery.  I was prednisone dependent for two years prior to my operation.  Wouldn't you know, the DAY before my operation I had the most normal bowel movement that I had in YEARS!!!  You have no idea how tempting it was to cancel the surgery right then and there but I knew this was a fluke.  It was the prednisone kicking in again.

The colon is tricky. It often does this; starts behaving once it hears that surgery is in the future. You can always postpone surgery, right up until you are put under. However, bear in mind what your sitz marker tests said and ask yourself, how would your colon have mysteriously improved?

The colon does funny things! It is probably either a reaction to stress or to stress relief. Sometimes I've waited and waited for a doctor's appointment and the day finally comes and it seems like that's the ONE day that my stomach decides to behave. If my main complaint is terrible bloating, I won't be bloated. If laxatives haven't been working, they'll probably work that morning.

Ha! Kinda like a car appointment (won't make that noise, huh?), hair appointment, or washing the car (umbrella anyone?).
It's just so nerve wracking, like "has this all been in my head, and now that I don't want surgery it goes away, proving that it was all in my head?" UGH!

I had exactly the same thing.. felt better for a couple of days and was questionning my sanity! then just 2 days before I went in I felt terrible again. That was enough for me!

Like the others have said.. it's just a blip! your colon hasn't improved overnight and won't do so. You ARE doing the right thing. Keep strong.. this is the really hard part.

You guys are lifesavers--seriously.  I don't know why I'm not able to handle this.  I've been through some really, really rough tough stuff in my life, but nothing has messed with me more than this!

The support from ALL of you is getting me through, thank you!
