Define fever?

Temp is slowly coming back down since i took my percocet at 9:00.....hopefully that is the end of that. I really think I did too much this weekend. My husband goes back to work tomorrow and both boys will be at daycare, so I plan to get plenty of rest.

I had fevers through the last half of my 18 day hospital stay with my step two. about 100, slightly lower. They instructed me to use my spirometer more and walk as it could be fluid in lungs. After discharge, the first week I was home, I had fevers for about 4-5 nights. The second night (of course Saturday) I called GI fellow on call (who happened to be Dr. L's fellow-Dr. Angel Farinas who knew me way too well by then haha) and they said to take Tylenol and if it didn't respond, to go to ER. It came down that night, but the next night had them AGAIN. GI fellow next night said to go to my local ER to be investigated for signs of infection (xrays, urine, bloodwork) and all negative. The point they were concerned (and again, this was Cleveland Clinic) was 101 or higher (I was 101.9 at highest I think?) I'm a pharmacist and make sure you are taking therapeutic doses of Tylenol to lower your fever. You can take up to 4000mg per day. So if you're just taking 1 Percocet 5/325mg tab per dose, it wont lower your fever as well as if you take it with a 500mg plain acetaminophen tab. Try this! Also--I definitely believe my fevers were related to my dehydration, because after my trip to ER and almost 2 liters of IV fluids, I felt SO much better and the fevers did not return. And I was drinking A LOT, but wasn't enough. Just a thought.

Thanks, steel city. Yes, I know Anjel well. . Last night I took two of my percocet which gave me about 650 mg Tylenol. Seemed to help. Today I plan to take one percocet with one Tylenol so I can cut back on the narcotics. Will also keep an eye on my drinking and see if that helps.

I am feeling a bit better. Lots of sleep! No issues with temp. Still having this maddening urge to go to the bathroom all the time. It's making me insane! A nurse from my surgeon's office called this morning and I passed that info along and my gripes about this new stoma. It doesn't feel fair to have to fuss with a bag and the urge to poop all the time. :-(.

I'm kind of hoping all of this will help the pouch "mature" and maybe the first days/weeks after the reversal will be a little easier as a result? That's my optimistic thought I'm hanging onto right now. I need something, I am amazingly depressed and distraught over all of this.

Good night! Hope your Tylenol works. Do you pouch OVER you dressings? Is there no other way..if it's the way I'm imagining you wouldn't get a good seal?!

Is there anything between wafer and incision? And are your staples out? Your layout seems like mine but I trimmed about 1/2" off side of my wafer so it wouldn't go over my healing incision..makes me too nervous to cover the healing wound. But by now I'm healed.

I have a low normal temp, on average it is only 36 - 36.5 which means a temp to me would be 37.5 - 38, which most medical staff wouldn't consider a fever. Always have a problem if they say no fever as temp is only 37.9, I tell them my normal body temp and usually get met with rolled eyes. Luckily, don't get many fevers or I'd go mad having to keep explaining and have constant eye rolling.

stripey that happens to me too, it is very annoying. and my sons temp runs low also, so i have the same problem if i take him to the dr.

Another rough day today. Got a call from Marlene this morning and explained the issues I've been having. Temp was good then and I let her know that. She was one more person telling me there had to be an opening on the stoma, I just can't see it. Maddening. In realize there is a hole or output wouldn't be able to come out....that hole is at or below the surfacebof my skin though and that's the part I can't get through to them on. They seem to think if the whole stoma isn't retracted then that's nit possible. I'm reaching the point where I'd like to go up there, take the pouch off, and make them look at it and explain to me where this hole is that I just can't see. She also told me the mucous discharge was normal as was having a little pain when trying to pass it. I think it had built up for several days and that is whyi kept having to go, go, go yesterday. Today it's only been two or three times.

When I changed the pouch today, it hadn't leaked but the skin around the stoma looks really bad. There is about a 3/4 inch crescent of really red and raw skin from the 3:00 position around the bottom and side to the 9:00 position. There is also a small ulcerated spot at the 6:00 position. Never had anything like this before with my old stoma. I did the change laying down again and made sure I used stoma powder to try to help the skin. It went well and I've been wearing it for almost 9 hours with no leakage.

My big problem today has been low appetite and fevers. Right after the pouch change I started feeling chilled and my temp was 100.3. I couldn't take meds for a couple of hours so I got into bed and tried to sleep. Woke up when it was time for meds and my temp was up to 101.3. Took one percocet and one Tylenol pm and went back to sleep. Over the next five hours, up until now, I've run a temp anywhere from 100.9 to 102.3. Right now I'm just shy of 102 and I can take meds in half an hour. I'm becoming concerned as it seems the meds aren't taking the fever away completely at any point. I don't have any specific pain, but I'm chilled and feel just a little bit of a body ache. What to do?

The resident on call said to call Dr L in the morning and request labs. He doesn't think I'm bad enough to need to go to ER tonight.

So sorry you are having a rough time! Let us kbow what they say, guess they'll want you to go get checked for any source of infection- see what's causing those nasty fevers! Take care!
