last night around 3 am i was admitted back into the hospital! i was/am dehdrated nesau vomitting and shortness of breath i think the fluids have helped but i still cant eat a full meal all i was able to eat today was 2 crackers and less than half of some jello :( im so hungry . might get out tommrow just kepping everyone updated hope everthing is well to youall jackie :-)

Sorry to hear this news and hope you're on the mend soon. Like we are all saying you have to look after yourself better, get some help and let your body recover. PLEASE take care and listen to our advice Sarah x

Poor thing. I hope you're feeling better soon. I was reading your story about going to school so soon after surgery. It would be nice if you could take a bit of time off and heal.

If it's any consolation I just got home today for the same problems. I was having too much ouput from bag so, it caused me to become dehydrated. I'm not quite sure why I'm having problems with eating. I do know one of the pain pills I was taking was causing extreme nausea. After I changed that pill it got alot better, but I still have cramping when I eat and feeling overfull. Hope you feel better soon.

Its really easy to get dehydrated and end up back in the hospital in the beginning. Good news is you will learn the signs and figure out how much you need to drink to keep from going to the hospital again.

One can also get some major gas after surgery when things are healing which can cause a crampy feeling. I had some in the first four weeks that made me double over in pain. Gas-X helped quite a bit. Some times the gas made me nauseated and have a feeling of fullness too.

      Sorry to hear this Jackie.  I wound up in the hospital with dehydration about two months post op.  Believe it or not, I got sick from Gatorade!  After drinking half a bottle, my output just started pouring out.  My heart started racing and my fingers and toes got numb.  Weird!  I had my husband call the paramedics.  They tried to get some water into me but I started vomiting.  They then took me to the hospital.  It was a Saturday evening and they kept me till Monday afternoon. 

     Did they give you potassium?  Man that stuff burns in the IV.

i dont think i had potassium i feel like im not able to get a rel break with me being in school AND my senior year. we will see how that plays out ! there giving me LOTS of imodium wich i think is making my output lots more thicker but other than that i just had dinner : oast beef sandich with some mashed patatoes it took me an hour to finish it all but it was yummy and a little bit of apple juice. thanks for the get well posts lol

Jackie, Just saw your post. sorry you are going through this. Glad to read above that the dehydration seems to be under control as you are now hungry and able to eat. As complications go, the dehydration is the most common this soon after surgery and the easiest fixed. The potassium and salt balance are critical as I'm sure you learned. Glad you are better.

Take this as a sign and take it easy. Home school if you do not want to leave your class behind. Maybe join up later in the year. OR take a year off. In a life time, one year off pales compared to the many many more you will have. The gift of time is the greatest gift we can give to ourselves. Just food for thought. Praying for you . Rosemary

today is kinda better i really thought i was leaving today it doesnt bother me to stay i just though i wsnt going to say. im having a hard time eating now. its not that i dont want to eat i do have an appitite it's just really small now and then im more picky w/ foods. It just fells like i have no taste buds kind a weird.

My taste buds are all weird, too. I think it's pretty normal right after surgery. Almost the only thing I find appealing right now is cheese and cheese flavored things. Luckily my husband makes a great grilled cheese and he bought me those single serve microwave macaroni things for when he is at work.

Glad you're doing a little better Jackie. Hope your taste buds come back soon (although, I suppose if you're in the hospital, there are some advantages to not tasting the food....)

Sorry to hear this! Please take it easy when you are released. Your health is the most important thing....school and everything else needs to come secondary right now. You will get through this...just know there is NO RUSH and listen to your body. Don't listen to those who tell you how you SHOULD be feeling. They haven't had surgery...only you can determine he you feel
