1st Long Trip with Ileostomy

Well, my wife and I decided to drive to MA to see her family for the week. I was very nervous because the drive without traffic is about 4 hours and it was to be the longest trip to date. I am glaad to say it went well. We brought so many extra supplies just in case, but we didn't need any more than the usual amount.

We also drove a about 1.5 hours to Boston to see my sister-in-law and her family. It was nice to hear everyone say I looked normal. No one could believe just a few months ago I was 120 lbs and all the other issues. They all knew about me going septic and having peritonitis (both twice), but they could not believe I was back to my normal weight in just 3 months. Well 5 now.

I guess I needed to start living my life instead of counting the days until my reversal.

If all goes well with my reversal, we are going to Disney World in March. Gotta celebrate the loss of the bag.

Good for you! I am happy for you and pleased to see that you are getting on with your life, thats what I love about my ileostomy, it hasn't stopped me from doing anything and I am off on a cruise of the South Pacific next week and plan to do all the activities I can jam in ten days yeah . GOOD FOR YOU! I have gone on 10 cruises including a world cruise with my bag. I just don't dare fly due to air pressure issue with my guts. So I do train, ship, boat, water taxi's all over the world. Good for you. Where there is a will there is a way. Rosemary

Congrats, that sounds great! One of the amazing things for me after surgery was having so many people say how much better I looked .... guess it really is obvious.

I always take way more supplies than I need too. ..... but hey, they're not heavy or anything.

Definitely, live! That's the point....

Hoping to do our second meditterean cruise next summer. Just had dx confirmed as Lupus which is causing the joint/nerve pain and so reluctant to fly at the moment as sitting that long, even 2 hours, in those uncomfortable airlines seats will kill me. So doing cruise that leaves and comes back to Southampton.
