can bags go bad?

I found a box of hollister bags, I think I have had them about 3 years, the box says 2012 on it. Is there anyway they could go bad? I can't see what would happen, unless the plastic got brittle but it seems like it would take a really long time for that.
What do you think?

Expiration dates are until the end of the period given. So if the 2012 you are referring to is an exp date then you have a whole year! I don't know what goes bad, but it may just be that bags have only been studied and tested to be fine that long so that's all they can put. But in reality it could be longer..?

I have some convatec wafers from 2009 and they actually darken and become a bit brittle, BUT amazingly they still adhere well. Unless the bags were exposed to some wild temperature variations and with the 2012 date likely being the ending expire date, I would guess they would be OK.

I have the roll up velcro bags with the security flap. Just for off topic info, I got a whole lot of them one time where they put the velcro in the wrong place so the velcro pieces did not face eachother as the bag was rolled up. How is that for a bad batch bag story! I called in and they replaced the lot. Rosemary

I got some like that once too. I was really excited when I found these because hollister changed to that awful new bag, and I'm almost out of the good bags. I guess I will just try them and see! They've been in my closet so they haven't been exposed to anything. Keep your fingers crossed for me, lol

     Wow...I never noticed an expiration date on my boxes.  I better go look.  I use the one piece Coloplast.  Edgepark was sending me two boxes a month and I am backlogged with them, so, I told them not to deliver the boxes in Nov..  I've been on Medicare since August and Medicare is very weird.  The first month they ok'd the stoma powder and Adapt Lubricating deodorizer BUT did NOT ok the bags...go figure.

Wafers maybe, pouches I don't thing would be a problem...but you wear a one piece right? Either way you should be okay since it's 2012!

If I could get a huge amount of the old hollister bags I would buy them for sure. I too don't like the new flap piece they have. I keep getting holes when taking off end to empty. (Don't know my own strength sometimes.LOL)

I think the adhesive is the main thinkg that needs the expiry date. And eakin seal stuff.

Well I have one of the old bags on, just changed about an hour ago. I guess I will see how it holds up. these are the ones that had the old filter that wasn't supposed to get wet, they came with those little stickers. So I covered the filter with a piece of sureseal. There are 9 of them so I really hope they are ok!
Trigirl, I gave up on the new improved bags, I luckily had ordered a whole bunch, like 10 boxes right before they changed, so I was set for a while. If these work I will have about 3 or 4 months worth left. But I tried some different brands and the coloplast is ok, so that's what I will go to. I guess hollister didn't care about all the people who called and complained that the bag just falls apart!
