Ship diet

Hi,

Back from the Caribbean. Wish I could have stayed there. It was hot in the sun otherwise wonderful with warm breezes. Ahhhh!

Anyway, I think I found an answer to preventing dehydration as I was OK and was peeing up a storm which is good for an ileostomate.

Days we had shore trips, for breakfast I would eat 2 pancakes, egg, and some sips of whole milk just to sort of make a mush in my system so to speak.

Then after I digested for about an hour I started drinking water in little on-going sips during our site seeing. As my stomach was full of solids and had something to chew on, the water seemed to go right into my system and I peed just like a normal person. Light in color and not concentrated and did not dehydrate.

Then when we got back on the ship, I hit the Orange Juice and the decaf coffee with some sweetner and the solid from the a.m. moved out.

Does this sound like a routine any of you use where you are not sure when you are going to have access to a bathroom for awhile? It really did slow the flow into the bag without causing any kind of bad effect. Then I just ate lightly for dinner as in rice crispies cereal and milk and some yogurt. In other words, breakfast was the big meal of the day.

P.S. of course now that I'm home I start with all the liquidy stuff and it goes right into my bag then I have to play catch up with the water later in the day. Wondering if I should continue to the ship diet on land.

Oh, I see interesting. I have to try different combo's for when I'm home. All I have when I'm home for breakfast is OJ, decaf coffee, and rice cereal. Maybe more solids like on the ship will work better for me. Thanks for your diet info. Rosemary

Yeah, warm is good. I am about to force myself to go out and do some walking in 20 degree weather just to get out.

Unfortunately I can not for whatever reason breakdown all that stuff you listed so I have some figuring out to do with my diet. Wish I didn't but it is as it is as they say. Your's sounds like what I could do when my ileo was new (minus the ham, popcorn, and salad). Whatever I ate was out of me in a heartbeat, now it lingers around and needs stuff to move it on out. We're all different as they say.

I did discover last night that hot bullion only 5 calories, does the same thing as grape juice at 110 calories, so that may help with my weight loss project. Enjoy your cruise. Where are you off to? Rosemary

Rosemary, I think that's a great idea to eat the ship diet while on land!

Summer, if you have a waiter bring you pina coladas and put a deck of cards and a pretty dress in your beach bag, you'll only have to get up to pee.

For the yeast infection: dip a tampon in yoghurt.

Just letting everyone know that my husband received a promotion in the Army. He went from Private to a specialist. I am very proud of him. He has worked really hard for this. He got home last night from Ft Knox for his training. Hoping that he will stay home longer this time.

You can also freeze the yogurt -- in the fingers of a latex glove or in smaller ice cube trays (they make them in the right shape for ice cubes for water bottles)....actually feels good when the infection is itchy. You do have to wear a pad as most of it comes back out....

Just make sure the yogurt has active cultures.

Rosemary, I thought of you when that ship crashed.... didn't know where you were cruising to. Awful thing, glad you missed that one... hope you feel better soon w/the yeast infection.
