Takedown yesterday

For Pancakes, Jackie and anyone else having their takedown soon:  I had my takedown yesterday afternoon.  It went really well.  The pain is nowhere near as bad as the more invasive 1st surgery.  I'm actually already taking less and less.  The only time I really need pain medication is when I'm getting out of bed or walking around the halls.  Right now I'm just waiting for the small intestine to "wake up" so I can get some clear liquids.  Anyone have any info on how long this takes on average?

Congrats!! I think it was 2 days before my daughter had anything by mouth and by 3 days, she was eating solids.
I hope your recovery continues to go smoothly :)

I believe I was passing gas in about 24 hours and had a bowel movement in about 36 hours. Just be ready for a lot of gas and a lot of bowel movements at first. They tapered off for me in a couple of days. Good to hear you're walking. That relieves a lot of the gas.

Good for you! The worst is waiting for everything to "wake up!" You'll get through though, and it'll be so worth it!

Thank you all! Some gas today, no BM yet though. I guess tomorow This waiting is the worst! And Jackie, it definitely isn't as bad as the first surgery, you'll do great.

how are you feeling though...you feel ok? if you feel good but no BM I guess it's still good.

I started having gas stirring around after about 36 hours and then on my 3rd day some BM started coming. On the 4th day they let me have clear liquids, all I really wanted was ice water, I ate the jello and that was it, I couldn't stomach the broth stuff tooooo nauseas. By day 5 my BM's were coming real often and so they were able to release me to go home. So much better than the 1st and 2nd surgery. The first one I was in ICU for 8 days but that was because my Colon perforated and stool had been seeping in my abdomen for a couple of days so I had a wound vac for 7 weeks afterwards, very painful surgery. The take down one was not bad. I just wish I could get rid of the gas, it's terrible.
