sex life after reversal

It took me four months after the total colectomy to develop the interest and get over my fears that it might be painful. I hope others will chime in with their experiences. I imagine the recovery time will be shorter so hopefully your interest will reawaken after a shorter time period. Your question is very important. It seems to be a common concern for both men and women.

I'm trying to remember because it's been more more than a year now since my reversal but I think we waited between 4-6 weeks. I didn't have any pain it was just that I wanted to wait until I felt like I could control things. I posted this the other day but if your stool is thicker than you'll probably feel more comfortable having sex. If it's watery - things could get dicey. There are things that you can do to control that and things thicken up a little on their own in time. Wish I could tell you one position is better than the other but they all present their challenges! Gas can complicate things a bit too. The first time you may have some anxiety. Always empty the pouch right before. And once again I will preach the benefits of a bidet seat. They make you feel so clean! But I've not had any major issues during sex and I've neve had any leakage during that time. Good luck.

 

thanks for all the comments i know that when i try its going to have to be with someone that understands just incase but knowing that its not completly put everyone have sex is good to hear as some people have told me they just wont do it anymore :/
i have problems with my bag leaking now so i suppose i will just have to empty my bowels like i would my bag before hand and hope for the best thanks x

So glad you addressed this question, I was to afraid to ask because it's only been 3 1/2 weeks since my take down and I have terrible gas and diahrea right now. My husband is very understanding. We are both over the age of 50 and just celebrated our 5th wedding anniversary so we are still some what newlyweds and between chemo and the Colon bursting, bags breaking etc....it's been a challenge the last couple of years. I've been in counseling to help me through many issues and one of them is that it is "mentally" hard for me to get in the mood when I just don't feel sexy anymore because of "the bag before" and now gas and diarrhea. I do my best but it's been a month now for my husband and I know he's getting anxious, although the doctor said 6 weeks at least. A friend that had her Colon removed said they should invent a butt plug, ha. I agree but I don't know if it would do any good. I appreciate all your comments, you guys have helped me so much.

Now I'm not so sure. Under Q&A's, it poses the question if you can use it after stoma reversal, and the answer is that your doctor has to decide. So speak with your doctor first. Aside form that, the description sounds ok. It is a very soft, flexible material and you can keep it in for 12 hours (when you take it out the you will poo out everthing that was waiting).
I don't know if the tampon works without a rectum though, so I do not know if it is good for jpouch people.

that is the part that actually means: after removal, there will be a bm, but it is due to the build up during the time of having the tampon in, and is not caused by removing the tampon.

I feel the same way as most here do. Wasn't interested in sex for a while and wasn't motivated because of the bag. But like someone mentioned previously, I just didn't feel "attractive" or "sexy". The pouch doesn't bother my GF but it is certainly a self image issue for me.

What's funny is that now that I am scheduled for a Feb 10 takedown(two weeks away), I've become really horny in anticipation. lol

I just hope everything goes well so I can "get back up on that horse"

thanks everyone for your comments its 2 weeks tomorro since i had my reversal/take down and im feeling realy well in myself and just want my bm to sort themselves out now so i can get back out without worring.
i know in myself im not ready to have sex yet but im hopeing that when everything settles down i will. my main concern now is that i might have an accident when i do and ill feel so embarrased. also i was woundering about drinking alchol as i havnt seen my surgeon, how long has everyone been told to wait till they can drink again??

gosh 2 weeks is quick i was expecting id have to wait a few months which i dont like the idea of. but knowing that others are ok im quick excited to try and see how i feel x
