Have you heard of Cymed Microskin?

I don't currently have that issue, but tell us more. How does the microskin go on? If it is like a tape wouldn't that irritate skin more? Or is it more like a gel? Rosemary

Tony -- my husband has a real problem with adhesives. The pouching system he is using with great success now has no outer adhesive. He uses the Coloplast Sensura wafers, Smith and Nephew Spray skin prep and the thin belt. This has worked perfectly and he changes on Wed and Sun even though he could go for the week.

I am asking as this looks like it would be great for when we go away for 2 weeks to Aruba which involves a lot of time in the water. We have Sure Seals and initially they were very good but hubby's skin ultimately reacted to them and I am thinking that the Cymed might do the same thing?????

I guess I could order some samples to try and we should spend a good long day at our nearby neighborhood pool in preparation for that 2 week vacation that has us a bit anxious. We have been going there for years and did not go last year due to the surgery and really looking forward to going again but I am nervous that he will avoid the water and stay on a lounge chair under the shade most of the time.

I'll try the patch test and see how he makes out with it...would love love love for him to be able to use this system even if it is just while on vacation if long term use doesn't totally agree with him. It took a good month or so with each of his first two systems to develop a reaction to the outer adhesive. That is when we decided to try the Coloplast Sensura. The reactions didn't happen right away with Hollister and Convatech...but I think the sure seals if I recall did bother him first time round after 4-5 days of being on.

What did you wear previously? I wear a convex wafer. Do you need convexity?

I just tried cymed on the phone. Closed on weekends. Good for them!!! I will try again Monday.

@ polishdan, I used convatec convex wafers with paste, rings, powder, and a belt! Even though my stoma is an outy I couldn't stop the leakage because of the contour of the area around my stoma. This microskin is so thin that it fits like skin. If I reach down and feel around the stoma area now, I cant tell where the skin ends and the wafer starts....it's that thin. My microskin pouch has a barrier ring but it seems much more resistant to watery output.

Question. The Cymed Microskin looks great. Just one question, as the pouch does not click on with a hard ring and just presses onto the barrier with an adhesive ring, do you ever get leaks?

ALSO, can you use stomahesive paste around the stoma with this Microskin system? I have to use that rather than the washer type thing that goes around the stoma.

esor, I use the one piece system so I cant say how well the two piece system works. Call Cymed and talk to them and they will answer that and they will send you samples to try. They told me because of the thinness of the flange part that I probably wouldnt need the paste anymore and they were right. Its alittle uncomfortable at first because I was so used to using 5 different things before and now its just so sheer. Its a good kida different because you can move so freely... like bending over or working out and it stays on perfectly. Takes alittle getting used to. Tony

Dan, I don't use a vented pouch since I don't have the need for it but I'm sure I remember seeing them available from Cymed....I just rechecked the Cymed site and yes they have appliances with charcoal vented pouches.

Removed cymed pouch and wafer this morning. Washer was a sticky gooey mess, like an eakin seal. Had to use alcohol to get the mess off. That's strike two and three. The micro-skin was good. No issue with that. No more cymed.

Has anyone else besides Dan had a problem with the Cymed products? I'm wondering what the odds are that it will work for the person I care for. I'm trying to find something for sensitive skin and also hoping to reduce all the leaks we are getting.

Got a sample and we have not been adventurous to try it out as my husband's current set up has been "perfect" for a year now so too paranoid to try something else.

I have just started using the large sized pouch from cymed. I just had surgery mid march a colostomy due to diverticulitis. I am 260lbs and the long incision made my upper abdomin uneven and the stoma is at a bend. I have litterally spent the last 3 weeks trying EVERY system out there. They all fall off as soon as I bent or sit upright. Hollister works very well but my skin HATES it. I break out in blisters but Im allergic to the stoma powder. I was reading another forum and someone suggested cymed. The company is 10 minutes from my house so I was able to go there and talked to a salesperson and one of the engineers. The showed me a micro skin. It looks like a clear square piece of cling wrap. You cut a hole for the stoma as usual and smooth the skin on. The bag I have attaches to it and there is a thin plastic collar that is inbetween the bag and skin to help keep the stoma upright. My skin likes it. No irritation and its lightweight and the skin allows me to feel the temperature of the air around me. I dont feel smothered and sweaty like I did with the hollister system. It feels like Im not wearing a bag at all. They sell washers to place between the bag and the skin to offer more support if you feel that your skin is still too uneven or that the skin might start to come off. I havent tried a washer yet but so far Ive not needed one yet. So far so good. I tried a bag that was too small the first time and had a blow out but that hasnt happend with the large bag. I have very thick heavy stool and the system is handling the output fine. I havent bathed with it yet since I only hsve the one Im wearing but when I get a full order I will bath and report backhow it holds up. This product was my last resort. If this didnt work I would have been stuck with hollister and skin problems. I am not eligible for a reversal for a year and would have been suffering the whole time. I cant predict how I'll do in the long run but for now I'm very impressed. Hope this helps someone like me whose options are limited. Take care mary m.
