I had an emergency
proctocolectomy surgery about
three weeks after being diagnosed with
ulcerative colitis this past June. Surgery to create a
j-pouch was done in October, and in January I had the
reversal surgery. I'm having such a difficult time, and am wondering if there's anyone in this community with this type of experience that can give me advice?
- Food: I can't figure out what foods to eat that will be gentle on my system (I also don't eat meat or fish). Any recommendations?
- No energy: I feel very weak, and I'm constantly tired.
- Medication: I'm on 20 drops of opium tincture 4x/day, 2 lomotil 4x/day, and mesalamine enemas 2x/day. I'd like to be able to decrease some of this medicine in the near future - has anyone stepped down from this medicine? also, I heard immodium works better than lomotil for some people?
- Diarrhea: I had a bad case of diarrhea and my doctor prescribed 500mg 2x/day of cipro. Days after finishing the prescription the diarrhea returned just as bad. Could this be the same infection that just never went away? Or what are other causes of diarrhea?
I feel so lost. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
