Before I went into the hospital for take down last month, I knew that my new work contract was lying on the desk of the executive director. My boss just called me this evening to say that the man refused to sign it, because he thinks my work can be outsourced and he is not convinced I am any good. Truth is, he has blocked every one of my projects since I started. My boss wants me to sit down and write five pages summarizing everything I have done and contributed since my my first day there last June.

I really cannot cope right  now and don#t even have anyone I can talk to, I don't know wh, I know a lot of people but no one I can just cry my head off to who can give me advise and tell me what i can do next.

The worst part at the moment is that i still have to write other stuff and continue my projects just in case my boss can convince him to change his mind.

That's horrible! I'm so sorry. Not what you need right now at all. I would give yourself today, tomorrow if you can, however much time you can spare, to just get your bearings -- cry or scream or whatever you need to do to adjust to this awful news. And don't stop doing what you're doing to take care of your health, which remains most important no matter what happens.

Hang in, I'll be thinking of you.... hard to advise, but can try later when you're ready to cope.

That is so cruel! The good news is that you are in Germany and even as an American you have a lot more labor rights there than you would here.
I agree with bluegrass's advice, take care of your health first. Do write the project and contribution summary. The summary will help your negotiations and may help buck up your ego.

I'm sorry that absolutely sucks and is at best unfair if not illegal. I would consider it harassment and you certainly don't need that kind of stress/drama at the moment. Is there any way you can break off from work completely instead of being half in/half out always stressed without compromising your job? I don't know anything about Germany and it's labour rights but it might be something to look into at a later date. I hope your boss backs you, this is just outrageous.

The fact is that my contract is only for one year and ends May 31st. So it ends on that day and no one is obligated to anything. The assumption has been that I get a firmer contract starting June 1st. According to communication with my boss, he has been backing me all along. Personnell told me last month that my new contract was drawn up and waiting for the signature of the executive director. I went into the hospital believing I had a future. Now I'm wondering if my boss is the one who hasn't got the guts to give me appropriate criticism and/or just say he has reconsidered, and so he is blaming it on the capriciousness of the executive director. I can't see through it at the moment. I am afraid to ask becaue either I will sound paranoid or it will be too hefty a confrontation. All I want to say is, he never told me what to do and always told me to carry out my ideas. The executive director has been the one to pull the brakes on projects. My boss has never given any direction or told me what he expects at all. From my first day I had to invent my own work.

I'm really sorry to hear that B'Dereh. That is just the kind of bu11s1t anyone could do without - at any time! Let alone when you're only just getting through one of the most important times of your life.

I can't offer you any direct advice about the situation as I obviously don't know enough about it. What I would say is begin looking for other work, it may resolve itself and you end up with a new contract, or you may end up leaving at the end of May. Either way you may need to get your head into the right place to deal with coping with another massive change. You've dealt with health and come through the worst times, this isn't at all ideal or even fair but you can deal with this too.

I'm sorry this is happening to you right now, I feel really disappointed and angry for you. I just wish people knew what you'd been through, they'd think twice about losing you considering you worked through some awful personal times.

Problem is, it took me 18 months to find this job (the whole while in a flare) and what I do just does not come up very often in job postings. That is why I wish I could just move to England but there no way I can get working papers there.
So I'm writing up this summary of everything I have done and I am really not in the mood to fight right now. I am incredibly depressed abou tthis shyte and having to write this is making me feel worse. This executive director is over 70, has blocked projects and now complains I don't produce anything. To be honest I would probably be happier working elsewhere, but I will be extremely depressed and morbid if I am unemployed. This is a very bad time tonot continue my contract because everything I have been working on clearly needs time to bear fruit. My boss knows this. If I have to leave now I am leaving at a time when I will have nothing to show for the last 12 months and I really do not how to explain this when I start looking for a new job!

Take time to scream and have a fit and cry and get it out of your system as someone else said. Then just make a time line on paper by date of all the stuff you have done. Can just be one liners about projects and when you did them. AND how they benefited the company.

THEN turn it all over because NO job is worth your health. Remember I had the original sigmoid resection upon opin of 3 colorectal surgeons to get the incomplete rectal empyting issue resolved (believing I was being given correct info at the time). I did this all to get back to a job that I never got back to due to the horrific stuff I fell into. So health or a job? hmmmmmmm let me think. I know you have to work, but if they are making this impossible just finish your current work, do the time line, see what falls out, then see if you can find something else. I used to think I was indispensible, that was my fatal flaw.

Good luck. jobs and people come and go into and out of of lives, but we only get one body. Rosemary

If you can talk with your boss about the possible outsourcing of your job, try to find out to who. Perhaps you could send a resume to that company. Just a thought.

I wouldn'tgive away any information that would let somebody take over your job. It really sounds like a cheap shot because you have been sick? I saytry to keep it until you find something better. Not fun to be jobless these days.
