Takedown complete

So I finally had my takedown wednesday. So far nothing bad has happened. I was walking the next day (11 laps around the floor). Today I took it a little easier only doing 5 laps so far.
There are the gas pains from the intestines waking up. Those take your breath away. No urgency or jpouch pain. I even held one BM for a little over an hour with little trouble.
My doctor is saying that I'm progressing nicely and I will get to go home tomorrow morning. He wants me to keep walking though.

How are you feeling today? How far are you with eating food?

I'm feeling alright today. I will probably start feeling better since I'm at home now and get to sleep in my own bed. Food wise, I can pretty much eat what I want as long as it is cooked completely. That being said I still take my time eating it.
I get sharp gas pains and my stomach is still sore. Doctor said both of those will subside with time.

So far I went to the bathroom about 8 times. Half of those, once again was just urinating and also because of gas pains.

Food in the hospital sucks too. The biscuits I had for breakfast were ok, but the eggs? BLEH.

You are doing great! I never had any gas pains but have to reduce frequency from the 18 poos I was doing a month ago. Am now down to about 12, I think, maybe 10 or 11.
The other night I cooked Moroccan Lamb with cous cous for everyone at work. I had no problem with the spices and cayenne pepper (yum) but there were a lot of garbanzo beans in there and my belly was swollen with gas hours later when I was trying to sleep. I would reccommend not eating them or other legumes (like lentils) for a few more months. I will avoid like crazy. I would really like to try some catelope but am afraid to. I'll wait until they re more in season which will give me some extra time.
The sore stomache does subside. Those feelings where he stitched the stoma place together, there are feelings there still one month later, like lying dreictly on it, or it being sort of weirdly half numb, or it pulling or just being sore and tender. That gets better but we already know that from the first operation.
Let's be grateful we are through with all that surgery, bloody hell it really takes it out of you.

The best of luck to you and it sounds like you are doing fabulous!  My son had his takedown surgery one month ago.   How funny you should mention the "phantom stoma".   He still finds himself reaching down to check his bag!  He also has a "do not eat" list of things that cause him gas pains.   French fries or fried foods are the worst for him so far.

He said they lasted about 1-2 weeks.  Now he has none.   we are still watching what he eats as he has been waking up with stomach pains (which they think is more of an acid reflux) but we are getting that checked out next Wednesday.  He said he has no more pain, cramping or urgency.  If he feels that he has to go to the bathroom, he is able to hold it for awhile and has had no "nighttime leaks" whatsoever.  I guess having youth on your side sure helps when it comes to maintaining muscle control. 

NewShiny... what my son found to work for him the best regarding the "butt burn"..

I buy the Huggies Brand sensitive wipes (some of the other brands had to much alcohol and burned) and Bordeaux's Butt Paste.  You can get it in the baby product isle of any food market (Here we have Publix markets).  but they make two kinds,  one is the regular strength with 16% zinc oxide and the other is the Maximum strength with 40% zinc oxide.   I could only find the Maximum strength at Super Target.   But it literally saved him!!  Not to be too graphic, but he was raw after the first few days home from the hospital.   You have to imagine, nothing had passed through there for 6 months and now "Bamm", he was going every couple hours.  This stuff is great! 

 I also looked into getting a bidet (he actually suggested it).  there are some models that you can get that are just attachments to your regular toilet.   But I also just had a new shower head put on in his shower that has the hand held attachment.  I know that it's not as easy as having a bidet, but a lot cheaper.

Ugh, hospital eggs are the worst -- well, the scrambled are from powder or something, couldn't believe how awful they were.... the hard boiled were better, real eggs at least....
