For the past 2 weeks I have been having some pretty rough gas pains, and Iv'e always had to "try" to go to the bathroom but now it seems like I'm trying harder everytime. The doctor is treating me for a uti but Im beggining to think thats not the only problem.Could it be a blockage? If so what can I do to try to fix it? I really don't wanna wind up in the hospital again and have to leave my children with someone else AGAIN. Im not sure if I can go through all that again!ANY advice is greatly appreciated!

I can't be of any help b/c I don't know anything about
going to the bathroom anymore - hopefully a jpoucher will chime in. Also, perhaps ask the question over at agirlwithguts?

I am definitely not an experienced jpoucher (still waiting for my takedown), but from my limited knowledge I might guess you have a stricture. And I think that that can be addressed by the surgeon dilating the area in his office, no hospital stay required. Like I said, though, I'm no expert.
I hope that you get this figured out and fixed soon! Let us know how things are going.

Yep stricture. I did not originally have j-pouch but had a sigmoid resection for what was thought to be sigmoidocele at the time. 3 weeks post surgical the "join" closed right in on me. From what I know the j-pouch type stricture is much easier dilated than a colon anstomosis stricture. Good luck. WHile I was severely strictured I had to take a half gallon of colyte bowel prep to "go" through the stricture. WOuld not be recommended for someone with only their smll bowel. BUT you may want to try SPlenda. That works for me and I Have an ilesostomy with some issues now and I have to melt foods down with Splenda to get them through my stoma which may now have a late developed stenosis. I should find out tomorrow. GOod luck. Rosemary

Oh, dear! I'm so sorry you had to be admitted again. It will be for the best though, once they figure this out. Thinking of and praying for you!
