I had my colectomy July 2010, going on 2 years now. From the beginning, I experienced extreme rectal pain. Never asked what and why and what can I do....I'm the type that just deals with it and never complains. The pain would last few minutes to about half an hour. Sometimes multiple times a week, once a week, to very seldom. Sometimes I waken in my sleep.
Initially I would just pace back and forth, walking off the pain. Then I had an idea to sit on the toilet, relaxing the muscles. Felt better. Then I read posts on here. As I still have my rectum, it's going through atrophy and it will secrete mucous and reabsorb. So, now I actually sit on the toilet and let it secrete. I don't strain. By doing this, I don't suffer as long waiting for it to reabsorb. The consistency can be very thin, little pebbles, to more formed. I though have never had bleeding.
I did inquire and this is all normal. I have never leaked or had extreme discharge, if I ever do, I will make an appointment. As I have my rectum, my experience might be different from yours, so maybe you should phone in your concerns!
