I have yet to be tested for Colonic inertia. My tests are Annorectal monomentry and Defocography. I would like to hear from people who have this disease to tell me the symptoms of it as my OBGYN said I have to remove my colon before I can fix a Rectocele which I feel is the total cause of my problem. I am able to go to the BR everyday but not a full amount.
I would like to know more about it so please e-mail me at [email protected] I do not want to do this without any proof it is what is wrong. I cannot get back what they removed.

My experience with colonic inertia is the fact my colon motility is extremely slow. Without the assistance with enemas, I will not have a bowel movement. I don't even have the sensation or the urge to go on my own. The sitz marker test revealed all markers in my ascending and transverse colon. The markers did not make it to the descending or sigmoid colon. But I also have a twisted, extra long and loopy colon. I am scheduled for surgery June 25th. My stomach is swollen and I have this annoying pain which has become more noticeable. Yesterday I tried eating three simple healthy meals and I regret it today. I do better with one meal a day and protein meal replacement shakes. Eating this way one would be skinny...not me, I have and continue to gain weight and I don't know why.

Ensure you have a transit study or sitz marker test which is the only way to determine if you have CI or not.  Also the rectum exams very important too so there is no inertia there too.  Its so hard to know how one shoudl proceed but if your bowel is inactive then there is no more to be done - some consultants just remove it and connect smal bowel to rectum, others dont remove the large bowel but give you an ileostomy.
