UC problems in rectal stump

hi again guys! got another question. having lap total colectomy on august 1 and was wondering if any of you had problems post surgery with UC symptoms from rectal stump being left for the J pouch creation? normally this wouldnt bother me too much if jpouch surgery was going to follow soon after, but my surgery for Jpouch (if the chrones check comes back negative) will likely not be for a couple years. i would hate to have the ostomy AND deal with UC too!!! surgeon says its not common to experience bad symptoms in the reamaining rectal stump once the colon is out but it can happen in small percentage of patients. i just really hope that im not dealing with the ostomy and STILL passing mucous 10 times a day. obviously from the healing near the stump im sure there will be some discharge and mucous but hopefully nothing like the UC symptoms i am experiencing now WITH the disease. anyone dealt with this???

My son, Dillon, had very bad disease in his rectum prior to surgery but it did not prove to be a problem while he had his ileostomy. We were told that even though the rectum is diseased there is no poop passing over the ulcers and thus usually it does not cause you pain. Mucous and a little blood will still be passed but it normally does not irritate the ulcers. You should not be passing mucous 10 times a day since there is such little surface area left that there is very little mucous being produced. The mucous that you are passing now is coming from the whole area that is diseased and thus there is so much.

If the remaining UC had been an issue we were told that rectal suppositories could be used.

I am starting my masters in january that is alteady paid for and cant switch it with the university. Two years of that. But im still ok with it for now and have to make sure i dont have chrones as well as i have a touch of ileitis. So just a lot goin on. No need to rush anything if im doin ok with it. :) jist wanna b colitis freeee!
