Extremely happy with my new J pouch!

Hi guys! I just wanted to write a quick update.

I had my ileostomy reversed on Wednesday and went home on Saturday.

Since then, things have been going wonderfully! I'm in very little pain (just sore around the incision and occasional "pressure" feeling in my pouch), I've had NO LEAKS, no accidents, and no butt burn (I bought calmoseptine ointment to apply a few times daily). I can also sleep for a solid 6hrs without needing to get up to go, I can take a 10 minute shower (as opposed to the hour it would take me with cleaning the skin around the bag and changing it), and I know that I'll be able to eat whatever I want soon! I'm still avoiding veggies for a few weeks.

I never dreamed that things would go this well; it just goes to show you that if you are patient with your body and take the time to learn how best to get along with your changed anatomy, you can lead a wonderful, happy life!

I wish the best of luck to everyone currently struggling with health issues and that you can find the solution that works best for you, as I have :D

Hey thats just what I need to hear right now ...I have my first surgery on Monday and am hoping for good things too...thanks for sharing

These happy posts are so great to see. Seems like a lot of people are having to make the descision to have surgery and I'm sure this helps. I just spoke with one of my husband's clients the other day who has decided to have j pouch surgery. There are so many people suffering and this surgery in my opionion is a God send.

I'm so happy for you! It may take longer than a few weeks before you can eat vegetables, but we know how to be patient about stuff like that.

It is so nice and comforting to read these posts as I am due to have my reversal on 15th Oct and I am a bit scared but reading them has put my ind at ease a little wink

     Theresa, so happy for you! Hope you continue on your road to recovery.  I was not a candidate for j-pouch but am happy with the end ileo.  It gave me my life back.  I was just thinking this morning....my youngest daughter is getting married Sept 29th, age 35, first time for her and her fiance although they have known each other since kindergarten rolleyes .  Guess they didn't want to rush into anything..lol.  Anyway, if I didn't have this operation, I doubt I would be alive to see her get married.  If the disease didn't kill me, I am SURE the meds would have done me in by now.

Awesome, Theresa! I'm just over seven months now and have never had any significant problems with the pouch. I'm glad to hear you are having a good experience so far!

Take your time with the food and remember that you can still get blockages but it isn't nearly as big of a concern as with the ileo. Just go slow and chew well while you're figuring out what you can handle. I eat anything I want now and before long I'm sure you will be, too! :-)
