Pain while peeing post surgery.

I had the procedure on 8/3 and had a cathater until 8/9 - while peeing I experience pain and find it very difficult to start peeing and when I do the urine doesn't come in a consistent flow. Anyone know whats going on?

     You could have a urinary tract infection, or something going on with the prostate.  Notify your doctor.

Not saying this is what is going on with you but: about 10 days after my surgery I started having a very difficult time urinating. I felt like I had to go but just a tiny trickle would come out and it hurt. This went on for a day then I started running a fever. Since it was a Sunday my hubby drove me to the ER to get checked out. They did a ct scan and found a huge abscess in my pelvic area. That abscess was putting pressure on my bladder and that was why I couldn't urinate. I would definately call and inquire about that just to be on the safe side. Like Christine pointed out, it could just be a simple urinary infection.

Going in to see the dr tomorrow. Called them earlier. Also started taking AZO for some relief for urinary pain.

Most likely it is irritation from the catheter, but going to the doctor is always a good idea.

I couldn't pee for several days after my surgery due to a combination of anesthesia and irritation from the catheter - they had to continue to cath me until I was FINALLY able to pee on day 4 or 5. They almost sent me home with a catheter in! But it did feel pretty uncomfortable for several days after that, catheters can be very irritating. AZO should help!

AZO helped a ton but only could do one dose, appointment at 4:30 today.

hope all is well! anytime you place something foreign in a natural orifice like the urethra it can cause some funny symptoms! hopefully it is nothing more than some severe irritaiton. i had some bad burning and pressure in my back for a couple days after cath removal and then i had a funny symptom of air in my bladder for like a day where i would pass small amounts of air at the end of the stream. totally not normal but not uncommon after cath removal. turned out normal so far. if your having pain in lower back and all those other symptoms it may just be a UTI or bladder infection in which case antibiotics will knock it out! sounds like infection, hopefully not as serious as Mariannes story! ouch :( stay positive!!! thats always the key!!!

Its a urinary tract infection. Just started the anti biotics. By god this was a painful experience - Anyone who has a catherter after surgery get checked!!! It will not get better of its a UTI it gets worse, worse worse!

It was most likely a direct result of the catheter being in after surgery.

My surgeon explained there was almost nothing I could have done to prevent it. It was from the catheter inserted after the surgery. So if you need the surgery you may get it. After the cathether is removed you can expect pain for 24 hours or so but if you don't notice improvement after that insist on a UTI test. I had it out on Thurs and was crying in pain on Sun, it advances very rapidly. This is not something that should deter anyone from opting for the surgery, but just something to know about. If you begin treating it on day 3/4 by catching early you'll be fine.

I remember having difficulty peeing after having the catheter in after my ileo surgery. I was 10 years old at the time so they put me in a bath and told me jokingly, it was the only time they'd allow me to pee in the bath lol It didn't happen so they ended up having to put another tiny catheter in to drain what was there (I was in agony due to a VERY full bladder). After that I was fine.

Hello! Im 8 days post op, and im having similiar problems except i didnt even have a cafater. I had a laparascopy type surgery. Whenever i have a wee, i cant force it out, have to wait which is weird, then once it starts coming out, im in extreme discomfort in the abdomen, and then i feel paralysed from the waist down! Then when it stops, i cant get up for a while. All this takes atleast 45 minutes!! I dont know what it is and if i should be worried. Only go the toilet and i end up in tears!
