Iliostomy Take down

Everything you are describing is normal. 8-11 bm's only 8 days after take-down is pretty good. I had nearly 20 a day and now, after 5 ,onths, I have 6 or 7.
Add psyllium husk (meta,ucil) to his diet, this will firm things up and really reduce the affects of acidic bm on his skin. Taking immodium is good. Buy calmoseptine for his bottom, make sure it stays dry.
Food: no major fiber; no gassy foods, no leafy veges. Stick with a little cooked carrot, potato is good, chicken (not fried°, any meat or protein as long as not greasy. White bread, white rice, some smooth pb, apple sauce, banana, boiled eggs. For me, yoghurt is very good. Cheese gives me gas. I put soy milk in coffee. Other people will have advice here too.

This is how I wipe: only once with paper. Then I squeeze water from a bottle over my butt and clean using my hand under the flow of water. Then I tap dry with a clean dry wash cloth or toilet paper. This is very soothing and much cleaner than with paper, probably the most important thing for him to do. After drying, I smear on a tiny dab of calmoseptine but only if I need it.
Doctors never know much about what you should eat. Keep it basic, nothing greasy, no big desserts, nothing buttery or creamy.
He will feel better as soon as his skin heals, so follw my instructions and tell him he shouldn't be afraid to touch his own butt. It is important to make friends with it and treat it well.

After a movement would a warm sitz bath help his bottom?

no baby wipes, in fact no wiping. spray with water, and pat dry with soft soft toilet paper. apply a barrier cream after every single potty trip.. like ilex or calmmoseptin.

sitz baths may help him too. Or you can jump into a warm tub after each potty trip.

stick with very plain food that will help bind him up. oatmeal (the real kind, not the prepackaged sugar filled stuff), mashed potato, banana, white rice, peanut butter

Sorry, just saw this post. You need to buy your husband a bidet seat attachment. Google it. Mine is a Coco and shoots out warm water. It will be the best present he ever receives. He'll never have irriation down there again.

Try the jpouch organization on the net and see if there are some other dietary type suggestions to try for now...maybe his system is still adjusting and kind of tender in there so he has to go real easy on what he is eating...in time that will definitely get better.

How about those TUCKS pads...they are really thin round discs treated with a witch hazel (I think) that might be soothing for the area?

They come in all price points. Shop around online. I think the one I bought was around $380, but it was worth every penny. There are cheaper models. Some don't have heated seats or even heat the water. But there are lots of sites that sell them and many of them will match a price or go even a bit lower.

Hi nicole! I hAve my take down surgery next month so thank you for asking the questions i need answers to so I can be prepared, i have been told by my stoma nurse to keep away from foods after the take down which now make my feaces 'Frothy' when i empty my bag-your husband will know what i mean. These food are acidic so will cause soreness. She also told me the first 4-6 weeks the bowel is very active but does settle, i believe her as she told me when I had my ileostomy that the stoma would be very actice for a number of months- it was! But it would settle and it did. My husband has been so supportive, your husband is lucky to have you looking out for him, continue to use this forum as you are his helper and will need support, good luck
