Hi everyone.
Thanks so much for all your encouraging words and advice, it really helps. I had a strange night, don't think the hospital kitchen understands what a soft diet is. After explaining to the kitchen manager yesterday that soft means soft as in puree or mushy they again brought me a chicken casserole! I only ate the sauce and avoided the chicken pieces but think there were mushrooms in the sauce. Anyway I had dreadful cramps the whole night, minimal drainage and +++ air in bag. Bag almost popped with air at 2 am and again 6 am!
Since the op I've had minimal drainage, only needs emptying about
4 times per day and only drains about
200 ml per day but LOTS of air!
Dr said may find that my biggest problem coming to grips with stoma is bag bulge due to excessive air which I'm producing. Said I'm fortunate that there's minimal drainage and probably due to small bowel having adapted over the years!
Any advice re excessive air? Do the bags with charcoal filters work? Are their other products that help for this? What about
specific foods to avoid other than mushrooms, onion, cucumber, cabbage?
@ Rosemary, my dr was actually a general surgeon who specialises in GIT but not a CR specialist and he is known to be excellent with laparoscope. He only loosened the adhesion, didn't use any barrier as far as I know. My general surgeon who has looked after me for 7 years and who knows my case so, well assisted him. I felt confident with the team.
Let's see how breakfast goes: oats porridge and yoghurt and of course my protein drink
Will keep you posted
