So I've never really had a huge "blowout" while sleeping. i always wake up before it gets everywhere because my skin itches under the wafer.

Well, last night at some point I woke up and my pouch was full of air, so I just burped it (opened the Tupperware seal on my two piece to let the air out) so I wouldn't have to get out of bed and empty. I've done that before, no big deal.

Then I wake up when my alarm goes off to realize I am literally laying in output!! Omg! So I go to change and shower and realize it wasn't a leak...I just didn't fully close the seal when I burped it. Good job, me. Won't be doing that again.

I'm going to be doing laundry for the rest of the day!

Oh dear!

I had a similar situation happen to me a few weeks ago...

I was at the in-laws and they asked me take a look at something with their pool equipment. While I was out there, I noticed I had a bit of a "bulge" in the bag. What I didn't know was that bulge peeking out over my belt line wasn't air!

So I sort-of mindlessly reached down and burped. You can imagine what "burped out"!

Next thing I knew it was a mad dash to the bathroom. "EXCUSE ME! GOT A BLOWOUT!" With a couple of people scratching their heads... "Um, what's a blowout?"

I had that happen about 3 months after I got home from surgery. I was walking down the hall, I thought it was full of air,I went to burp it but pulled it down a little too far and it wasn't air! Thank goodness we have hardwood floors!
I never did it again! Now that I tape it at top I couldn't anyway.

Haha, oh that's awful! That's why I burp mine from the bottom (just raise the tail up, squish anything semi-solid down/away from the tail, and unclip to burp it)... too afraid of making a mess if I mess around with the top part. I did have that happen once after a full bag change, but luckily caught it before it made a mess (just a tiny drop or two).

I did that once too, last spring. Luckily it was only an hour or so before I was to get up anyway. Not a fun thing to deal with!

     I've only ever used one piece.  I could never figure out how to apply the two piece Coloplast and neither did my ostomy nurse rolleyes .  I had two blow outs when I used the one piece Hollister.  The seams split!!!  Coloplast is great.  Believe me, sometimes I forget to dump and by the time I get to the toilet it is 3/4 full...but never broke yet.  I try not to push my luck but when I am at the casino I forget I have a bag..lol.

My daughter had that happen in hospital, just two days after getting the ostomy! The nurse didn't snap it on tightly....needless to say we checked it often after that!

The other morning, I woke up and my wafer was half off!!, it was awful! Luckily that doesn't happen very often.

Mine didn't split, Christine...I just didn't close it all the way because I was half asleep. I've never once had a problem with hollister. I much prefer them to any other brand, for various reasons.

To each his own, obviously.

I've done the "don't quite snap it on" all the way thing before. I had slow leak at the bottom all day and that took awhile to catch!

During my first 2 months with a stoma I think I had around 15 nighttime blips, when I woke up to a seaped-through seal, gaping open to show me a huge amount of thick output which was usuall all over whatever I was wearing. One of the things I love about having a jpouch now is that I don't wake up and see a hugely filled bag hanging off my body. But I still get woken in the middle of the night, sometimes twice and occasionally three or even four times, by the feeling I need to get to the toilet now. There are nights when I sleep through but I'm especially annoyed when it wakes me only one or two hours before I really need to get up for the day, because I lose most of that sleeping time if I can't fall back asleep right away.
