Thank you Bluegrass for this information. It is very helpful. For me, finding out as much as I can beforehand makes me less fearful. When I woke up (on life support) after my bowel perforated, I did not like my "surprise" illiostomy. What a shock!! But to be fair it saved my life. That was 19 years ago and I try not to have any more "surprises." I have also heard that there is phantom pain where the rectum was, anyone have this, and how bad is it. Does it go away?
