Sometimes I catch myself stuck in a colitis mentality. I stopped eating citrus fruit with the second to last flare-up, that was September 2009. Then read scary stories here about
what happened to people with stomas when they tried to eat an orange. Well yesterday I couldn't help myself, there were these ruby grapefruits at the market, so fragrant it made my mouth water and I had to buy a couple of them. I squeezed and strained the juice, and then diluted it in a large glass of water. Heaven. And no ill effects.
Are there any j-pouchers eating oranges etc without consequence (D or iritation)? It was the worst when I had CU flares, and I could understand that a stoma would have a hard time with all the pulp. But when I wasn't ill, my small intestine had no problems passing chewed citrus fruit down to the colon, so why should it have problems passing it into a j-pouch and out?
Should I just eat grapefruits like normal? (I'd love to).
