Idea for using a shower cap to keep the bag dry

Someone gave me an idea to place a shower cap over the Ostomy bag to keep it dry in the shower. The only problem is that water collects at the end of the shower cap. I tried twisting up the shower cap opening under the bag a securing it with a bobby pin but this doesn't help much. I was thinking of buying some Velcro strips and see if that would make it more moisture proof. Has anyone tried this or have any other ideas?

I do like the idea of using the shower cap. It saves time using a hair dryer.

I like that idea. I've also heard of people using seran wrap press and seal? But I've never tried.

The bags take soooo long to dry. And I thought my hair was bad!

The bag does take forever to dry and is annoying under the clothes when wet. There are a variety of premade options available. I was so lazy I just bought some online, but you could certainly make your own. Check out sites like www.koolostomy.com perhaps you could copy the design and sew your own.

Hi

 The best home made thing I have found is to take a freezer bag or sandwich bag and put a small slit in one side. Make it long enough that you can reach inside the bag and pull your ouch through it. turn it where the opening is down and it will keep most of the water off. If you run some tape around the upper end and sides of the bag it will keep your pouch and wafer dry. After the shower you can pull the tape off and reuse the bag. It works for me anyway.

I tried all those things and none of them worked! Then I notcied that when I got in the hottub with my bathing suit or bellyband on my bag didn't get nearly as wet. So, now I wear my belly band in the shower! I have always taped it up because I don't like it touching my leg, and its in the way while shaving. So the band keeps me from having to use as much tape and also keeps it from getting as wet. You could also take a bathing suit and cut it you just have to make sure you cut it to get the important parts clean,lol.

I have toggled with thoughts about shower time with my ostomy. First year post op, I was saran wrapping. Then one day I decided to stop.

I take 2 black metal paper clips and clip the empty pouch up and around the top. This way it doesn't get the filter wet. Quickly following the shower, I towel off and press my towel against the adhesive part of the wafer and then air dry for a few minutes. Then I unclip. Completely dry, especially underneath. I still get the same amount of wear time as with saran wrapping.

Interesting topic and one worth investigating for sure. I have seen some ridiculously priced items out there, like a plastic skirt to cover the entire area for a mere 80 bux! We're new to this, so if we "Invent" anything that works we'll post it here!
