Hello, all. Been browsing the forums here for a little bit now, and everyone here seems very knowledgeable.
My wife had a total colectomy just under three weeks ago, and has a.(hopefully) temporary ileostomy. We've been having a little trouble keeping the wafer on for longer than 36 hours or so at a time, and its causing her some skin irritation. Her stoma isn't recessed or anything, but it doesn't stick out very far, and has a small gap between the stoma and her skin. The hollister Adapt barrier paste has helped us in the last several days, as we got about 3 days out of her last wafer and have just broken 36 hours on this one.
Anyway, we're thinking that the best solution is going to be a convex wafer, but are wondering if it is too soon after the surgery to start using one. Her stitches around the stoma are still a little visible, but she's had all the staples from her incision removed and is healing pretty well. We do have an appointment with a WOC nurse on 2/14 but that's still a couple of weeks away.
Thanks! Sorry for typos, typing on a 7" tablet.
