How to get rid of gas

When I first had my ileostomy three years ago I was ever gasy. Now, it's unreal. I avoid everything I should but it doesn't make a difference...Any ideas?

Hello Jennpen.

What make of bag do you use? I only ask because I know that there has been many complaints about the new filter in some of the Coloplast bags. I have had a problem my self with the One piece Assura drainable bag. I find that the bag is ballooning more than it used to,especialy at night.

They sent me home on the assura products. 2 piece. I like it but the filter doesn't work at all and it fills up with alot of gas. I have been suggested to try hollister new image..Have you heard anything about that product?

No I am afraid I have only ever used the Assura so I can't help you there.

I have used things in my bag that soak up watery output and are supposed to help with gas. Maybe you could give those a try. I havn't used them for ages though so I am not sure if they were made by OstoMart or salters. Look up the different aplience companys on the net and see what accessories they have,there might be somthing that will help with your gas problem

I am having alot of gas too, I thought maybe it was from just having the surgery but I use the assura bags and they dont seem to be working as well as they used to.  I usually have to (burp) my bag during the night too because it get so full it wakes me up and its mostly just gas. I think i might try the hollister.  have you tried the osto ez vents? they are good to have, you dont have to undo the bottom of the bag they are placed on the top so its easy to just pop it open and let the air/gas out.  I'm not sure what they cost, my insurance pays for mine, but if you'd like i could sent you a couple to try if you have to pay out of your pocket, i know they will send you samples too.

I am one that also has alot of gas, Beano helps some but I have to take 3 or more with each meal.
I used to use the osto ez vents, they cost about 15.00 for a package of 10, they work great. I am now using convatec 2 piece and almost as easy to burp. I will be going back to the ez vents when I get out of my financial crunch I am in.
