I got busted out of the hospital today and am now sitting at home on my couch! Today was a whirlwind of typical morning hospital stuff, drain removal, quick visits with surgeon, ostomy nurse, social worker and mobility nurse. Packed up my stuff, IV removed, got discharge instructions, needed supplies and prescript
ions and before noon I was in Mom's car and on my way back home.
Now I am showered (which felt amazing!!!) wearing normal clothes (well, wearing them around my currently very large stoma) and snacking away in my own living room, enjoying the relief of a percocet and the excellent continuing care my Mom is giving me. I know a lot still lies ahead of me, but I have to say that life is pretty good!!

Congrats! Besides being at home, just excellent that you can sit and shower. I couldn't do those right away.
Get some sleep and enjoy being at home!

You sound amazing. I was not that chipper when I got home from the hospital! Glad to hear you are having a smooth recovery. :)

Thanks everyone!! I am feeling pretty good today in general, but think I might be experiencing a minor blockage and am trying not to worry myself to death. Otherwise I am just bored on the couch, taking phone calls and trying to relax.
And YES, YAY!! for Mom!!! She has been beyond amazing, caring for me for well over a month now. I will never be able to thank her enough for helping me through all of this.

Awesome, so glad you're home!!! Moms are the best.
You're done with surgeries now, yes?

I am done with surgeries now, since I decided to go with the end ileostomy. The only thing I might would get in the future is one more surgery to have my anus sewn shut. I was so malnourished and at risk already, that my surgeon felt doing that part now could be problematic. Apparently it is a very serious wound that can be tough to heal, even more so for someone in my condition. I am going to do some research to see if having that area in tact could lead to any problems, and if it would be worth sewing up at some point down the road.
And yes, Mom is beyond amazing!! :)

Congrats and welcome home. The hardest part is making the decision and waiting in that pre-op room. It only gets better from here!

My mom was with me for 9 weeks after my emergency surgery. I don't know how we would have managed without her. Missed her dearly when she went home!!!

UCWhat,
Congrats on the successful surgery and glad to see you're in a positive frame of mind. Please do let us know what your surgeon says about
simply keeping the bits you have remaining (no more surgery). I am in the same position as you and just can't make up my mind about
whether to allow them to leave the stump etc or remove it and sew everything else up for good.
