I can see how enterically coated capsules, as well as hard caplets and tablets could be hazardous for those of us without colons in case it sails through without dissolving. So far I have been too chicken to even risk that with simple capsules made of gelatin or vegetable cellulose- I have been
opening the capsules and emotying them into something like applesauce. Multivitamin and b-complex contents taste awful, however, but not too horrible with the taste of applesauce or something else diluting it. Do a lot of you take those simple capsules without any issues?

Hey.
I take meds in gelatine capsules without worry. (I curently am taking some)
You can take the shell and hold it in your mouth, it should dissolve quicky :)
You could also put one pill in your bag and see how fast it takes for it to dissolve (if at all).
I don't know about
the celulose tabs, do the above test if you are able to spare 1 pill.

The gelatin capsules are fine, they'll make it though, no problem. You don't need to empty them into applesauce, just schluck them down. I have melatonin tablets that I take at night. They are coated for a release action. I have to admit that when I have swalled them whole, I saw them the next day, untouched and whole, in my poo. Now I crack them before swallowing, but I am not sure if it's effective.
The only vitamin I take is D, and that's an easy-dissolve tablet. Other vitamins are usually coated, or come in a tablet that fizzes in water but that contains a lot of saccharin that I definitely don't want in me. I asked my doctor which vitamins are in a normal pill form, but he said I don't need supplements until I actually show a deficiency. (I only had vitamin D deficiency.)
Anyway, you are lucky that in the States you can get high-quality vitamins (Solgar?) in capsule form.

There are different kinds of enteric coating. Most enteric coated tablets that aren't 5ASAs are meant to dissolve in the stomach or small intestine. Especially with your end ileo, Pro, you shouldn't have an issue.
It sounds like you might be scared of what will happen if a whole pill tries to come through your stoma... the answer is that it will just come straight out! Once after my first surgery when I was taking Tylenol tablets (no coating whatsoever) I took one in the middle of the night with only a sip of water. A few hours later I saw the WHOLE THING in my bag. And this was a totally uncoated pill that would dissolve by itself in a cup of water! Anyway, no harm done, it just happens sometimes. As B'D said, worst case scenario you'll see it in your bag later and know you need to switch or change your routine.

Thanks, folks! Yeah have to overcome my fears. I can certainly spare some for testing... How much vinegar to put in glass of water to simulate acidity of the stomach, I wonder?

What kind of vinegar?
Edit: Thinking about
it, vinegar is way to weak of an acid to simulate ph in the stomach.
