I'm so sorry to hear you're dealing with this
Two things...
First of all, I know nothing about
Canadian healthcare system but keep your head up! I was supposed to have a four week wait for my surgery and ended up waiting two days. Sometimes things happen in mysterious ways
Secondly, what is the surgery exactly? You'll be having your colon removed and a new end ileo created? Will you have rectum removed? Anal closure? Will it be laparoscopic or
open?
Everyone is different and all that and my surgery was different, but when I had my colon removed and my end ileo built, I was able to go back to work fulltime after six weeks. My surgeon's office considers that the standard disability period for a laparoscopic colectomy/end ileo so it's not just because I'm so lucky and wonderful
If it comes to it I bet you COULD go to work after five weeks -- most importantly because you're motivated and actually WANT to go to your new awesome job, but also in spite of the fistula you'll be going in in fabulous health, much better health than most at the time of colectomy.
Good luck!!!
