Humira - presurgery?

Has anyone here ever tapered or stopped their Humira injections before or after surgery?

Kind of hoping that I can get off the med... would never have started it for my other issues alone - they just weren't severe enough to warrant the biologic meds.  It has been no help for my UC

I have had 13 surgeries in the past 6 years. I'm still on Humira.

My Humira was stopped early March pending surgery. Surgery now due July 11th.

hey MM, I never used Humira but I was due for a Remicade infusion two days before surgery, and we canceled it. Remicade (and I would guess Humira) is associated with an increased risk of post-op complications, presumably due to immunosuppression, so my GI and surgeon wanted me to have as little in my system as tolerable. It wasn't working for my UC anyway so I didn't mind skipping it.

I actually wanted to taper ALL my meds before my surgery, but my surgeon was adamant that it was more important that I stay as stable as possible rather than struggling to taper 5 or 10 mg of prednisone (I was at 35 mg I think) -- that it was more important that I be as healthy as possible on the day of surgery than that I have a few days or weeks less of the drug in my system. So I think it all depends on what, if anything, you're getting out of Humira.

I was on Humira when I had surgery 4 yrs ago and stayed on it after surgery for a good few months to help stop more fistula's forming unfortunately it didn't help at all & more fistula's formed  so I was then taken off of it as my Consultant felt it was doing more harm than good . x
