Question about dressings and showering

I recently had my third surgery due to a volvulous and now have a dressing covering my midline incision that opened up a bit. My question is how do I avoid getting it wet in the shower? I'm getting tired of sponge bathing and would like to just shower but I"m not supposed to get the dressing wet unless I shower right before the nurse comes to do the change which is only twice a week. The longer the dressing stays on and the aquacel stays in the wound the better job it does of speeding healing I guess. It's getting hot where I live and I'd like to shower at least every couple days! Any suggestions on ways to keep it dry?

My incision was open and too used Aquacel. I also would wait until the nurse came and shower before seeing her. Aquacel can be changed daily, even though they told me every other day. My home nursing care dwindled every appointment, so after a week I saw her every 3 days. I quickly regained my strength so I showered every/other day and changed wound care myself.

During the shower, I Saran Wraped myself and used waterproof or silk tape. I would leave the bottom open, there was no need to tape up. Most often the wound would still get wet, seeping through the tape, but it's OK as long as your changing it afterwards.

I suggest if you'd like to start doing your own care, next home visit ask her that you'd like to do this one yourself with her observing.

I'll have to try the press n seal for my picc line. Do you combine it with tape at all? I have a tube sock that I cut to cover the picc site, which I put my saran wrap over. Did you just put the glade over the dressing?
