Outpatient surgeries not stoma related questions?

I am having an outpatient surgery to have some eroded mesh removed from my vagina. I will actually stay overnight, but it will still be considered outpatient.

I am curious if this could create an ileus for me? My intestines will not be manipulated at all. I will have pain medicine and antibiotics before and after surgery.

What about not drinking after midnight? I am guessing no water for more than 12 hours until getting an IV is ok?

The uro gynecologist also told me to start taking vitamin C, 1000mg in the am and 1000mg in the pm as this will aid in healing. I also read this can help with skin issues? I never heard of this, but am now taking the chewable vitamin C.

I can't believe I am having yet another surgery, but this is my 2nd dealing with the mesh erosion. Ugh :-(

I recently had plastic surgeries to fix a slow healing open incision, and was worried by the same fear (ileus), for the same reasons (no drinking after midnight day before etc). One thing that you can do is hydrate like crazy the evening before up until midnight. Then, hopefully they will get you on a saline IV early on in the prep room while you wait to enter the OR. Then, when you wake up in recovery start hydrating again. I had an ileus 5 days after my colectomy but since then it has been smooth sailing including my recent plastic surgeries 6-7 weeks after that. Best wishes.
