This is a huge milestone for me. I stopped in 2002 when the disease got the best of me and I started having foot and joint problems. It took some convincing me, but I am going about
2 miles with about
1 mile of actual running. I plan to run my first 5k in the late summer/early fall, and start running 10ks again by spring. I am taking it slow, but my goal is to be at the top of my age group in a year. Another testament to the fact that we can do anything with an ostomy.

That's Brilliant!, You sound like a strong willed person and I'm sure you will be up there with the rest of your age group sooner than you think good on Ya xx

Congratulations! I'm a year post surgery, going to the gym and rediscovered my love for aerobics, or whatever these classes are called nowadays. LBT and body attack are my fav. I'm still amazed everyday of where I am now to 1-2 yrs ago. Love life!

That's awesome to hear! I was trying to train for my first ever 5k when I had my last severe flare and decided to have surgery. I can't wait to get back to it!

yea yea yea
I ran 3 half marathons and several 5Ks with a loop ileostomy a few years ago. I had never really ran much in the past. Somehow I ended up in top of my age group in two of the 5Ks and one of the halfs.
So yes you are so right - you can do anything with an ostomy.

That is excellent news.
I did one half marathon with my ileo and I've done three more since my takedown. I'm now training for my first ever full marathon! I'm so happy you are getting to do something you love.

That is GREAT!
I just started exercising myself. I got to build up to running. So do you use the Sealthbelt? I wonder how that will work as I also like to carry my phone and a water bottle too. I seem to not be able to have it all fit around my waist!
Have you had any problem with exercising? I still have my anus intect and work up with drips of blood coming from my rectum. I'm hoping its just internal hemmies but the colon-rectal surgeon are saying I may have CD! They've been saying that through my recovery. But my Surgeon and GI stay the opposite. I'm really confused!
Anyway if you got some running tips I coudl use some!!

Hope the running is still going well!! I love that I can run now...didn't start until after my proctocolectomy (and over 40!!) and cannot believe how awesome it feels. Congrats

Hey uc_free....did you have any issue with running? Any uncomfortable feelings in the surgical area? Also how long after surgery did you start exercising again?
